Hi Deepthi..

Before going for any Welfare activities, you must check whether it comes under company expenses for the same and it should not be overburdened.

Some of the welfare activities you may oragnise is below-

Birthday Celebration with cake cutting- You may celebrate B'day Party at last weekend of all those whose B'day was there in that month.. Arrange a big cake according to strength of your employees..

Employee of Month- During this B'day celebration, even you may celebrate the Employee of The Month Award also.. It will be awarded on the basis of performance of that individual in that particular month..

Arrange some Training programs, related with their personality developments, sales skill development, Communication classes..

You may celebrate Friendship Day...

Moreover if your employees are not covered under any Health Schemes, then you may ask them to enroll them with some Medical facilities, being provided by so many Insurance Companies.. It is available at a very low premium.. so company may also help to an extent..

Amit Seth.

As a person who has been working in a huge heavy chemical manufacturing Private Sector Organization in South Tamil Nadu for 28 years, Deepti, Indian workmen view welfare as below:-
*Subsidized canteen facilities
*Entertainment (including sports & games)
*Medical facilities for the self and family (now-a-days group insurance
plays a vital role instead of Medical facilities at the factory premises
itself)
*Educational aids to the wards of the workmen
*Transportation facilities (not necessarily company bus facility - even TA
will do)
*Interest-free loan facilities or low interest loans
*Freebies during festivals and/or Founder's Day etc.
I have furnished the above on the priority according to my experience
with the Trade Unions for years together.
Ofcourse, my friend, it all depends upon the size of the Company, number of workmen and funds allotted to labour welfare.
All the best.

Dear Ram,
Can you explain "Interest-free loan facilities or low interest loans". I have been given the task of finding out the cost to the company for providing this facility vs. the advantage. How can I sell this idea to the management.
Can you please help me?

Hi Deepthi,
Providing free /subsidised meals etc. should be thing of the past. Now a days obesity in youth especially in most of them attached to the chairs and PCs/Laptops etc is on the increase. "Employees' Welfare" in its true sense would lie in planning as to how they could be made energetic and feel younger day by day. In this context I only can suggest you to organise/set up a gym or a swimming pool in your work place equipped with suitable trainer. Further make a certain hour(s) of compulsory training/workout there even if cutting short the lunch/tea hours. It would go a long way in making them a healthier generation. Of course it may cost little more than what U budgeted for today, but in a long run, if U spread it, it would gets evened out. Needless to say other events like get-together, outtings, picnic, sports day etc U must be there already.
