Few of employee's always come late in the office, even after deduct their salary or after getting warning letter. They are very experience in sales part and doing good business for org. But rule is rule how can i handle them pls suggest me.

Dear seniors,
I am regular readers of this valuable site, and its gives me lots of information and always solves my problem. It helps me to write memo, letters etc. but my problem is that i can't write anything by myself i have to take a look once this site before i start writing anything. I have no confidence by myself may be due to my poor corrospondence skill. I have nobody around with whom i can take help. My boss is never co-operate with me when i asked something he hardly gives reply but very hard to understand. he reply only once if i asked again he got irritate..so you can imagine how helpful for me to have this site.

Employees are off course an asset of our organisation. These guys are marketing guys and do bring good business to the firm. But we should always follow the policy of the organisation. Salary deduction is mandatory.
They might be arriving late because they must be leaving late too..Just discuss this with your seniors or the PA head and you will be able to solve this.

How important is it for Sales guys to come into the office on time, everyday! As HR professionals, we need to look at things from the business point of view and flex our rules to suit what's best for the company and for the employees. Good sales guys means generating revenue for the company, meeting targets and having the company function smoothly. These guys are perhaps visiting the market late in the evening and even working out of home since where sales is concerned, there aint no timing at all!
Can you thus put them on to a 'flexi' time! Let them know what needs to be done from the office, and as long that that is being done seamlessly, need not worry about their timing.
if push comes to shove and the company cannot be flexible with them, start the day with something interesting for a few weeks....something that entices them to be there on time, rather than punishing them (since it did not work anyways)!

When question of deduction against late coming is occures, then they will raise the late working / sitting problem.
Get authorisation from you plant head.

Hi Neemkala!

We are advancing into a world where the employees are considered value creators and not just "Human Resource". Its important to understand that more we try to control, more would the resistance be. In a situation where companies are looking at flexi times in order to accommodate the employees need to freedom, penalizing for coming in late seems very juvenile!

You are clear on the fact that these guys are good at their work and are adding on to the revenue of the organization. Its time we set aside a very rules to accommodate employees will. Companies are focusing more on their employees now than ever before. This is because, they have realized the cost incurred on losing these performance driven individuals... Freedom counts and in a field like Marketing, it counts big time! Penalizing performers for coming in late would destroy their morale and they would look for opportunities elsewhere, where the culture is conducive to their style of working...

So just relax...! Its time your company shifts it perspective about handling your "Key Assets".

Treat them with respect and that would mean, respect for their work, capability and them as individuals... You would see far-reaching results.

Hello Neemkala,
Another thing that can be done is .. the HR gives a flower to any employee who is coming late .. the latecomer is supposed to keep the flower for the entire day .. this custom might cause some embarrassment to the employee and bring him to office on time .. this idea is a tested one .. it works .. try it ..

you always try to behave professionally .you tell them it is the office rule and it can not be change for anyone instead of me also.you must honest of your work.and ignore that things.you concentrate your work they automatically know the hr is really strict about all this things..after then they will come on time.

I donot agree with what you are suggesting as i my self is a part of sales and marketing and the kind of work that we all go through the entire day be it hot scorching summers or bone chilling winters or for that matter the drenching rains we are expected to be out in the market to meet clients and generate revenue.I understand that its important that people should come in time to office as people working in office always take wrong cues to follow without understanding the job profile of a sales person... in my organisation believe me the culture is so good that we are never questioned (obviously till the time we perform).Further in our office no body is allowed to sit beyond 7 pm until special permission is being sought...
