Hi all,
I have a question for everbody.
there are so many freshers (HR)every year passing out from management schools not evry one gets campus placement.
They at times have to join consultancys to start from recruitments, which is first step of the ladder to learn .after gaining experience there if they try to switch over to corporate HR nobody shows wllingness to take them.does that means they have wasted their time as any Tom,Dick n Harry can do recruitments these days.
I have myself seen so many companys taking people into recruitments, hiring team who have no HR background,no knowledge about hiring they dont even know waht HRis all about.
so I request all of you to give your valuable inputs to-if anyone wants to pursue a career in HR is it mistake to join a recruitment consultancy as beginner ?

Consultancies are good place for learning. Gain experience of about a year and then look for corporate openings. Big corporates prefer people from consultancies for large recruitment.

Hi Berny
First of all I don't agree that the the corporates are not hiring from the constancies. I have seen many people joining corporates from consultancy
Secondly One should not join the consultancy only because he or she wants a job. See a person has to decide on career path. Today the span of HR has increased a lot. there are different branches one of them is Recruitment. Now if a person feels he/she wants to have a career in Recruitment a consultancy is best place to go.
A person can easily learn to understand the profiles, different aspect of recruitment, how to judge a candidate.
Thirdly the recruitment industry is booming like anything. There are many national players as well international players in this sector. so person can have a career in consultancy also.

Berny,

Good question ......

According to me def. it is not a mistake to Join a recruitment consultancy. Freshers should build a strong foundation as they need to face a competative future . Recruitment Consultancy is a place where will start to know about stress management , Time management .......It is place very you will get to know about different technologies, market standards, oppurtunity to meet HR's personnel from different organziation understand the different recruitment techniques in different corporate scenario.

Yes, i agree that when you start looking for an corporate break you will find it difficult to sell yourself....But that is not the right perspection...there are many HR's working in corporates today who have crossed this phase in their career.

Every Phase in your career is an oppurtunity to learn new things , never consider those oppurtunites as mistakes. If you have good interpersonal skills , learning oriented , sound on basic technical skills, able to take pressure and very important a positive outlook will give a good start to your career.

Recruitment consultancy is a place to learn many things as freshers, make a right use of the oppurtunity.

ALL THE BEST

Hi Berny ,
Indeed a well put question i must say ,
My comments would be , Life is all about opportunities and encashing them in such a Dynamic talent oriented market i would say all Jobs are good ,cause if you don't take the opportunity someone else will .
Recruitment consutancy has its own learning and as rightly put forward not everyone on campus gets placed in the best places . Now a days have observed a lot of corporates (MNC and others ) have started identifying talent from recruitment cons as they have dealth with pressure in their early stages of the career and they are always open for learning other areas in H.R and always remember if you are good there are good opportunities always in the industry
Hope have addresses your question
All the best

Hi Berny,
this is the bitter truth that recruitment in consultancy can be done by any tom, dick n harry. and its not me saying this rather it has been proved by the consultancies itself.they hire even the candidates who have no knowledge abt HR. if they are able to communicate in english it means they can pitch the candidates and they designated wid the post HR- Recruiter. consultancies themselves have lowered down the image of its employees by not following a standardized criteria of recruiting candidate. same is the case wid BPOs. when they hire even a non 12th so definitely the other more qualified people wud get frustrated it spoils their image in other industries which susequently spoils their scope of career & growth.

Hi Berny,
All poured on very valuable suggestions.
All those are right and I stand as an example for that.
After completing my MBA, I joined consultancy and after having enough experience, I tried for a core HR job.
In the beginning, I had tough time getting one, but some companies wants candidates who has more exposure towards recruitment. The company after selecting you may give you 60%(percentage may wary) of the recruitment work and 40% other activities initially and later the percentages may change. So starting with consultancies gives you a good result.
Try for core HR jobs only after couple of years and with those companies who wants candidates with recruitment experience.
ALL THE BEST
Thanks
