Hi All, I have 4 yrs of IT experience in Dotnet. But i realised that I am more interested in dealing with people than coding. So I did my full time Masters in Human Resource Management..I started looking for internship or entry level job..but am not getting any offers. Is my IT background a hurdle? I really need tips to make my career in HR.

Hi Shravani
As you are looking for change of career from IT to HR due to many constraints you might find difficult to get into other platform. As already you are having enough experience into IT the companies might consider the wages that you are looking. At this experience it is bit difficult to get entry level but still there are chances where in you can explore for HR. For that apart from the academic skills you may have to explore more the practical skills of HR too. You can keep learning the people management, training & development, Technical recruitment etc where in you might get the right opportunity into Tech Recruitment & talent management

Hi Shravani,
Chances of getting job in any consultancy as an IT recruiter is higher looking into your experience. Try out there definitely you'll get selected other then that try to focus on:
1. Oral and written communication
2. Knowledge of Portal
3. Recruiting methods
4. Attitude
I suggest you that don't feel that your experience is hurdle for you to get job in HR. Infact its an advantage for you as you can screen CVs better and can take technical interview as well.
First start with consultancy then it will be easy for you to go for Corporate.
Wish you all the best!

Dear Sharvani !!
It is great that you like to interact with people and wants to do HR Activities for your self. However since you have 4 years of experience as programmer you stand a good chance to become a Team Leader in 1 or 2 years there after in next 5 years you could be a Project Manager. This position will help you in mojor of HR Activities such as : Recruitment, Performance Management, Induction, Grievance Handling, Retention. Apart from that, you being a Project Manager you will have liberty to set budget and project management, Manpower Planning and Succession Planning of the Juniors.
So in all, by staying in the same field you will be able to fulfill your desire of Human Resource Management, your study in HRM will give you an edge over other competitors eyeing on Project Manager Position.
Think over it again before you take a decision on switching to Job Profile.
Best Regards
Sameer
