Dear Seniors & Colleagues,
I want to have clarity on the Casual Leave Criteria.
1. On what grounds can a casual leave be granted?
2. Can an employee use it only in case of an emergency?
3. Can the organisations make its own rules on casual leave?
I would be grateful to you all for your inputs.

Casual Leave (CL) is meant to avail for meeting any unforeseen personal/domestic exigencies.
CL can be taken in case of any emergencies.
Companies can formulate their own CL/Leave policies.
CL can not be taken less than half-a-day or more than 2 days at a stretch. CL can not be
carried forward or encashed. Unavailed portion of CLshall automatically lapse at the end of
calendar year/financial year - as applicable.

Hello Rehma,
We are a part of society and may need casual leaves...
Following could be the policy
Total CL in a year-10
Only 1 CL could be taken at a time.
It cannot be carried forward.
It cannot be encashed.
It could be taken in case of emergency and there can be other reasons also (casual reasons....wedding, party, get together etc)
Hope it helps

please be clear Leave of any organization is either governed by the provisions of Factories Act & IESO Act ) or Shop & Establishment Act, depending on the nature of business.
if any its a manufacturing industry according to the Factories Act/IESO Act, the provisions of Causal leave is not their in Factories Act, but is has been mentioned in IESO model standing orders, and in case of cerfication or approval is not from appropriate authority under IESO than the model standing order is deemed to be applicable.
Secondly those having service industry/IT/ITES companies, the provision of S&E Act shall be applicable for leave and every State S&E Act priscribed separate "Causal Leave" under its preview. like Haryana, Gujrate, Punjab, etc provide 7 days.
in view of above you can make your leave policy for causal leave or leave policy as a whole for organization, in sync with S&E Act of respective states.

please correct yourself, leave provisons are falls under S&E Act for service industry/IT/ITES/banking/financial etc.
For manufacturing it factories act, though factories act does not prescribe any causal leave but that mentioned IESO Act/Model Standing Orders.
