Thanks, We are in healthy discussion, wages (All remuneration) are defined in the act for entitlement of ESIC i.e. upto Rs. 15000 only ..... it does not say to deduct ESI on >=15001. Moreover ESI does not cover an employee drawing salary >= 15000.

Yes.. Your Payroll officer is correct. ESIC should not be deduct from april salary.

Hi,
Please be informed ESI has the below contribution and Benefit periods as
Contribution Period:
April - Sep
Oct - Mar
Benefit Period:
Jan -June
July - Dec
Hence any employee covered under ESI for any contribution period mentioned above should contribute till it completes even after any increment in salary.
In your friend's case the same was happend as he covered under Contribution period of Oct-Mar, so he will not have the deductions from April. But he can avail the benefits till Dec.
