There is no legislation affording some job security or protection to Faculty in private colleges & Universities. The notice period protection only is available to them. There is no Central legislation affording any protection, in some states there are rules made regarding the service conditions. UGC also has some guidelines but there enforceability has to be suspect.

Most of the States have their own laws for regulating the employment of employees of teaching faculty in private educational institutions. The poster may check with the State Government Web site. Regarding non-teaching faculty, the Industrial Disputes Act,1947 is applicable for it was declared long ago by the Supreme Court that education is an industry whereas a teacher is not a workman.
