I heard that a person's handwriting also indicates person's attitude and personality? And I also heard that in some organization employers also judge person based on their handwriting. Is it really true and is it okay for employer or colleague to judge the handwriting? My handwriting are readable but pathetic and kiddish (that is also because since many years we are working on computers & have no writing practice).

Dear friend,
Once I attended a lecture of graphologist on handwriting analysis. He told that this handwriting analysis is 16 day long course and of the top Fortune 500 companies about 400 companies use method of handwriting analysis for recruitment. I did not verify the veracity of what he told.
Personally I do not believe in these mystic methods. With due importance to this method, I would like to ask one question. Why we are unable to tide over today's recession? Most of the industries are facing recession. Companies are falling prey to the corporate decline. Can a recruitment based on handwriting arrest this trend?
We do not have a case study or example wherein CEO was selected based on his/her handwriting and he/she could turnaround the company's fortune.
Taking scientific decision is not that easy. There are always gaps in our understanding of the situation. Human mind fills these gaps with these concoctions.
People in general and Indians in particular have idiosyncrasy to run away from the reason. Graphology apart, the another trend is to find solace in "spirituality", "yoga" etc. In most of the companies the basic malaise lies in not working in structured manner, not working in organised manner, not implementing the knowledge that was gained during professional courses like Engineering or Management and so on. The real workplace stress originates because of this. People know this, even then also they end up in embracing unscientific solutions.
In one of my training programmes on "Stress Management", I firmly told to my client that in my training, I will not cover "yoga". People get stress in your company because of some different reasons and "yoga" is wrong prescription. HR and Training Head were agog. They told me that I was the first training professionals whom they saw putting foot down so evidently. The 2-day training programme went on well. Each participant was realised the causes of the stress. I told them remedial solutions as well.
There is yet another trend. It is to change the spelling of one's name. It is believed that by changing the spelling, one can change the destiny! How churlish!
Before I conclude let me give famous quote of Francois Domergue. He said "Some people study all their life and at death they have learned everything except to think." Those who are unable to think will not only follow these mystic methods but become champions of these methods too.
We had a sickening testimony of the above quote when former Chief Justice of Supreme Court openly admitted that "xxxxx xxx Baba dictated my every single judgement”. I doubt whether judges of other democratic countries felt pity on us.
Those who were in their universities (i.e. in student phase) during seventies or eighties may remember that there were socialist in political parties. These socialist were living examples of how not to live with superstitions. They vociferously opposed the superstitions as well. Economic liberalisation after 1991 has many flip sides and one amongst them is that this tribe of socialists has dissipated.. Today we do not have anyone at the national level who espouses spirit of science. In the bargain we have a young generation that has bred under the shadow of "Babas" or "Gurujis" or "Swamis". Some 30-40 years from now, when would be in their old age, let them assess whether India could make progress because of the blessings of these demigods or because of scientific thinking.
While giving reply, I have digressed from the main topic but then this digression was per force and with cause too. While I have complete respect for "spirituality" or "yoga", my opposition is towards its wrong application.
Ok...

Thanks Dinesh for giving a comprehensive response.
I wonder why before posing questions people do not search the web. For example, I just checked to see "Is there any evidence that graphology works?" and found a few interesting links.
How Graphology Fools People and www.cia.gov › ... › Studies Archive Indexes › vol3no3 › html
Though there are a number of reasons for stress, I must admit that yoga and meditation do help reduce stress Relaxation Techniques for Stress Relief: Finding the Relaxation Exercises that Work for You , They will not eliminate the causes of stress, as Dinesh rightly points out. Stress arises not only on account of practices at work but also out of problems in ones personal life.

Dear Mr Simhan,
Thanks for your comments and appreciation too. For everything if members start searching the web then free and fair discussion on this forum will not happen. Yes web search is important but then it is important to ask for reaffirming or contradicting views as well.
For Anonymous: - I would have preferred you disclosing your identity. Leadership demands putting across one's stand firmly or putting across one's views fearlessly and not ducking under the cover of anonymity. My views are like "cat among the pigeons" but then new thoughts emerge not just feeding the pigeons but ruffling their dovecote as well.

Mr./Ms. Anonymous,
I personally find it inappropriate to hide your identity in a professional forum like ours. Regarding your query my response is - as an HR practitioner you should be rational.
Thanks

Dear,
Good writing is an art but we can't assess a candidate due to his writing, if you see that mostly logical persons hand writing don't too good. in comparison of illogical persons.

There may be a science behind analysis of handwriting. Unless and until we thoroughly understand the concept , we cannot accept / reject or redicule it. To follow or not to follow is one's own prerogative.

Dear Dinesh
May be I did not make my point clear. It is far better to search the web and pose a question giving our view about it rather than just pose a question to get others' views.
This blogger has posted queries in the past and I know that he has raised quries about going back to studies, etc.

Dear All:
Graphology does indeed indicate the person's attitude and personality and yes many companies including fortune companies do use it for recruitment. However, it is more effective if used in combination of other recruitment methods also, not just as a stand alone way of recruitment.
I am saying so because I have studied Graphology under Mr. Milind Rajore (you can google him) an eminent graphologist and also used graphology up to a certain extend for hiring in my company...
