Hi Cite Team, I worked as an Operation and HR manager in an IT Company.
I am planning to send few motivational e-mails to employees, Articles/PPTs/Quotes anything.
The topic I want to include:
1.Time Management
2. Error Analysis
3. General Motivation
Please Help

Dear Parul,
Whether e-mails motivate the employees is a point to moot. Employee motivation is too complex and motivators are embedded in the organisation's culture. If there are inherent flaws in the organisation's culture then e-mail transmission cannot fix those flaws.
Secondly, lot of material is already available on the internet, even then also, why you would like members of this forum to help you? Why are you not motivated enough to download it from the Google?
Thanks,

Hi Parul
You can send ' thought of the day' to employees on different topics (including the above). It will a good way to start and connect with employees. It will also help you to improve your network within organization. alternatively, you may also start " Friday fun teasers", it includes humor as well as some level of entertainment / motivation at work place.

Dear Neelima,

What you have given is list of satisfiers. These are not necessarily motivators. If wish to revise your knowledge on these two concepts, then you may refer Herzberg - Motivation-Hygiene Theory.

Employee motivation depends on organisation's culture, support from the seniors/Managers and above all fulfilment of self-actualisation needs of the individual. The last one is so important that if fulfilled, it overrides the non-availability of the hygienic factors at the workplace. Why scientists work at less pay? They are not given that great facilities, at least in India. They work at less pay and with less facilities because their intellect is challenged at their work.

Ask yourself, whether your work is intellectually challenging. Ask the same question to the employees and find out what is their reply. Many would reply that "I just work 20-25% of my intellectual capacity". Why do they give reply of this kind? What is holding management back from giving intellectually challenging work to their employees? On the one side, management blames employees for not giving their best and in contrast employees blame management for under-utilisation of their capacities. When this mismatch is bridged, we get miraculous company called Google or Amazon.

In addition to the above mentioned three factors, I have given list of the factors on which employee motivation depends. If you wish to refer my reply, click the following link:

Employee motivation through E-mails can definitely do a great deal, provided we are aware of its format and customs.
