Dear Sonia,
You have given list of the topics on soft skills. But then what about their functional skills? I found couriers committing the following mistakes:
a) Picking up packages whose packing is not worthy for transportation
b) Picking up packages without proper paperwork
c) Picking up packages where there is no service
d) Picking up packages with incomplete address
e) Misrouting the packages
f) Not informing the customer the reasons, if the package is not connected
g) Not taking deep interest in finding out the address. Writing false comments like "Address not found", "Door locked" etc for the packages meant for the delivery.
h) Not checking how many documents or non-documents are in the hub without delivery.
Going further, through the training, we need to inculcate career consciousness in their mind. Indian economy is growing and businesses are bound to grow. Amidst this demand for courier and logistic will grow forever. However, for their career growth, they should take interest and improve command over English. They need to learn basics of computers also.
My friend from Chennai had couriered me admission form of one Education Institute for my daughter. It is a very prominent courier company. Their local branch is just 2 KM away from my home yet they sat on the form for three days. As a Branch manager why he did not do reconciliation on why the document remained in the hub without delivery? There are several such instances of customer dissatisfaction. Customers do not care about the looks of the courier as long as their couriers are delivered timely. Therefore, training on the customer dissatisfaction has to be given primacy over superficial issues.
Thanks,
Dinesh Divekar
