Hello Seniors,
Hope you're all doing great!!!
I am Mohan BN, pass-out of RVCE, Bangalore. I was an academic topper with CET rank of 29 for Karnataka state. I was a topper in my college too in the ECE branch and landed in the open dream job offer of Oracle in 2009 during campus placements for 6.3 LPA. I worked in Oracle for 3 years 1 month and then quit the company to take up my dream of entrepreneurship along with few friends. After 3 years in the field of entrepreneurship wherein I took up lot of responsibilities and leadership roles in sales, marketing, training, mentoring, event management, editing etc, I had differences with other team members and as a result was forced to leave the group. So, with 3 years of technical industry experience and 3 years of non-technical entrepreneurial experience I stand jobless at this point of time. I started preparing my resume and uploading it in a lot of job portals. Though I received few calls from some consultants I haven't been able to attend a single interview for past one month. I have taken suggestions and reviews from my Oracle peers and updated my resume such that it speaks more of the BI industry language. I have even sent across this resume to them to refer me to any valid job opportunities but haven't succeeded in attending a single interview still. For time being, I have been brushing up all my BI and Datawarehousing concepts and am working to build a small BI project using the open source BI tools like Pentaho for a school ecosystem where the head of the school should be able to play around with data like the marks scored by different students in different subjects in different classes, evaluate teacher's performances based on the BI model created so that I apply my BI knowledge to a practical example. Even when I left Oracle and started training children in schools this idea of building a BI project for school had struck me. But I didn't give it much attention at that time due to other priorities. So, I am using my technical edge to build such a prototype so that it shall also prove to the recruiters that I might have lost the technical hands on experience for last 3 years but my analytical skills and functional knowledge have only become stronger dealing with real world business practices. At this point, even the situation at home is pretty tough where in my government employed father thinks that I am not even eligible to secure a job in a call centre. I know that getting into a call centre might give some money for present but wouldn't help in anyway for the career in BI domain that I am looking for. Hence I have been patient enough to wait for some calls from BI companies. However, I stand amidst darkness without any guidance from appropriate seniors working in the field. Hence I am posting this query of mine looking forward for some guidance from experienced professionals in this group.
Q1. What else should I do at this point of time to get back into the BI industry soon enough?
Q2. Would doing certifications related to BI like OBIEE 11g, Big Data etc be beneficial in the job search?
Q3. What should be my monetary expectations from the companies that are ready to hire me now?
It would be of great help if some senior personnel can share your thoughts and advice in this regard.
I am looking forward for all your replies soon....
Thanks in advance,

Dear Mohan,
Don't get upset with the things happening around you. Remember believe in yourself is the first step to success.
Sometimes we choose wrong career in life because of parent's/peer's/relative's pressure or might be because of more money or might be for other reasons which we don't understand even after working for a decade or more.
Hence one should start career planning from school days. It is often seen that parents make students bound to opt for subjects/specialisation as per their (parents) choice which is not at all appreciable in connection with the career growth. Hence through career/education counselling , the area of interests and strength area of the student should be identified first and then based on the same should be planned for future courses. In this way not only the student will enjoy pursuing the course but also will score high which in turn will reflect in the job/business also if he/she joins some job or start some business related to his/her education. So you will never get bored if you opt for some job/business related to your area of interests and strength otherwise after few years you may start looking to do something else.
Why I am explaining all these? Because I feel you didn't do any career planning and hence after working with some company you started business and now again looking for job. As I said above ,you need to understand your area of interests and strength area first.
From your explanation, it is understood that after working with Oracle in EC domain you started event management business, if I am not wrong. Here these are two different choices. If you think you enjoyed more while doing that business and that business was having product and services not related to your academic qualification and last work experience with Oracle , then pursuig ECE and doing job in Oracle was a wrong choice.
So if you really like business then go with it . Take your parents in confidence and take some financial help from them. It is always good to start a business of products and services which you know well or have enough knowledge.
And if you want to go for job because of current family conditions, then you may opt for job in the field which interests you more. If technical then you may face problem because of gapping of 3 years after Oracle but if you go with non-technical something related to your recent role, you may get a call for interview and may eventually get selected. So you decide.
For any further clarification, you may write to me on my mail ID.
