Dear Sandeep,
The idea is good. Induction and Orientation should be done immediately from the day employee joins. Leaving him alone just like that and conducting orientation after a couple of days will not be right as employee will automatically gain a lot of information about the Organisation and will become friendly introducing to other himself. I call that self-induction.
Depending upon the nature of employee's profile you should design orientation programme. A list of HODS or member from each department shall be made. As the process starts from HR deptt. The Head HR in the morning may brief all details of the Organisation which is essential for a new employee to know. Thereafter based on orientation schedule each member or HOD from different departments shall introduce them and give a brief information which is again essential for a new employee to know.
Each new joinee attending the orientation programme shall be given a format having the details such as start and end time, agenda, venue and details of the person who will be briefing mentioning the designation, department and some background of the person who'll be briefing. After the discussion the person briefing the new joinee should sign on the format so as to have a confirmation that new joinee has undergone interaction with the concerned person(s) of each departments. The format lately should be kept in employee's personal file.
Post this process the Head HR or a representative from HR should meet the new joinee as part of 30th day induction programme where HR will like to know new employee's understanding of his profile, department and based on any of his queries HR if feels so shall schedule meetings with the department(s) concerned.

Dear Sandeep,
In that case new joinees should be in a group and that's only possible if all new joinees come on-board on one common day say on every Monday. The orientation may be done on three days Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.

Hi,
Keeping cost cutting towards orientation & training, it shall be as short as possible. On first day of orientation program, in the first half joining formalities shall be completed during first two hours & after a tea break a power point presentation giving brief introduction about the company, organization structure, nature of work and rules & entitlements. A hard copy of presentation shall be given before hand.
For junior level as there are more joining, the joining date can be fixed e.g., first Monday of the every month. They are sent in second half of the first day for intro in department & job briefing at their respective departments where their seniors take up their introduction part with others employees according to his work assignment. From next day onwards, orientation/ training in their field is provided according to their job requirement.
For senior level, company can not delay their joining therefore orientation is required immediately on their joining. Seniors shall be briefed about his role, powers & functioning & company policies. It shall be assured that senior level employees are introduced personally to their counterparts and seniors.
Posting employees to their departments on very first day makes new employee happy by knowing his superiors and departmental head also feels confidence in management by getting more work force.
