Respected Seniors, I am working as HR executive in a PVT. LTD. Co. I am taking care of recruitment and joining formalities, hand-holding, attendance management. I have 1.5 years exp. in HR domain. However, I am getting an opportunity to work for another company as an admin executive with a comparatively better salary than what I am getting today. That will basically include taking care of joining formalities, paper formalities, payment of utility bills, maintaining records of bills, taking care that the organization shall not be penalized by the government, and liasoning with government officials. The only fear in my mind is that if I worked as admin executive, will it barred me or make it difficult for me to enter again in HR domain at senior position later in my professional life. As I have only 1.5 years of experience in HR(recruitment/attendance management) or admin experience with this HR experience help me to get better opportunities in the future.

Pls immediate response is needed as I have already cleared interview for the admin executive position and they are ready to give me relatively good salary hike that I can not get even after appraisal in my present company. Pls guide me. I am in a state of confusion.

Seniors, please help me as I do not want to spoil my career!

Thank you all in advance

wasim.hr.mgs,

Good afternoon to you. I am a Central Govt Class 1 Gazetted Officer retired and currently serving as VP (Admin) and enjoying my work as well as when I was in Govt service. I have done both HR, Admin and ER related works all my life and can assure you that if you take on both the jobs you will be much more experienced rather than getting slotted in only HR. I can quote you that I had worked in DRDO for six years as manager security, safety and fire fighting and a qualified labour lawyer (MLL&LW), satellite imagery expert, Computer qualified (Diploma from NIIT Pune) and a fighting soldier for 36+ years in Indian Army. I can only suggest you that if you feel right go ahead and accept new assignment and look for more qualifications so that your horizon is broadened for bigger roles. Nothing will stop you from doing both admin and HR jobs with the same zeal, if you wish to.

Suggestions to you for better outlook of life:

(a) Don't get categorized so early in your carrier.

(b) Look for opportunities to broaden your educational base for making wider choises in life.

(c) Don't stop further education as it will help you only to progress.

(d) Be a very positive man to look up at life and go ahead with progressive prospects.

With warm wishes

Hi Wasim,
You fear are correct. Do not Jump in Administration. Admin needs full focus and with its come thanks job satisfaction, which will impact your focus on HR in early state of your career.
Continue your career as HR and focus on more verticals in HR for atleat 5yrs downline.
Wish you Good luck.

As your having Hr executive Experience I suggest stick to that because its a vast & important field in Professional world. When it comes to Admin it is also good but not as good as HR. Why I am telling this is if u join as Admin & quit & look for better opportunity you will more get admin offers which may not have job profile as your current company is offering you. I suggest you is dnt change your field from Hr executive to Admin.
