hI Jyoti,
When you woke up in the morning say to your self that you are the most confident person on the earth. Tries to go alone in the shopping malls, cafeterias. Read some good books on the confidence building. And dont feel that you lack some where as all the others persons are like you .

Hi Jyoti,

I also failed in Public Speaking in the first instance when i was asked to speak ex-tempore during my initial training as Management Trainee (Pers.)/HAL in 1978. It hurt me very much. I was trembling all along while standing and speaking. The topic was of my choice per chance. but the scare of speaking before other trainees of my batch and the Principal and manager (Trg.) was there in my mind. After this episode I started reading newspapers everyday once in English and Hindi loudly. I started arguing with my colleagues on points in which i had a confirmed opinion on the point in issue. I started using mirror everyday in the morning and used to say to myself "I am the most Confident , the Best and Intelligent Speaker; I can handle question and answer sessions successfully; I started with rehearsing my script in a closed room loudly and with gestures;I started treating the audience as stones and then used to start my speech; I never reminded myself about the stature of audience present in the house; I did everything to make my script studded with relevant , powerful words and phrases; I indulged in seeking Power from God for Excellent Public Speaking etc. All these gave me so much of confidence and power that after two/three unsuccessful attemts I started succeeding like anything. I started getting "Outstanding" feedback from participants. Basic thing is "your command over the language and thoroughnes with your script. Dream Big to become Big. :)

Jyoti, You lack confidence because you think so and you keep saying so. so please stop this and start visualizing that you are very confident. this may seen not relevant to you first but if you keep saying your mind will accept it and you will be full of confidence.

Dear jyoti,

Mr. Dhanwal is absolutely correct. It happens with almost everybody in starting of the career. Confidence in public speaking requires basically some knowledge/skills.

First thing is your job/subject knowledge - important aspect of this is to know 'what not' along with 'what is' about the subject (it means, you should be pre prepared for all negative or possible questions from your audience).

Secondly, you should be having command on audience language (it will be the best if you also understands their verbal & nonverbal body expressions)

Thirdly, you should be very well aware about the pain area of audience, i.e. why you are there? why they should listen to you?

Fourthly, The most important skills for any public speaking:- common sense, presence of mind & sense of humor. With this you can do miracles, like some times you must have seen Hon'el Railway Minister Laloo Prasad Yadav does.

All the above you can learn with practice. This will provide you inner confidence, "yes I can".

All the best for meaningful progress.

Mr. Satish Kumar Dhanwal and Mr. Sameer, that was the most incredible solutions provided, your words, themselves, were so powerful, good enough to impact the mind and soul.
I too practised public speaking on my own. I remember being ridiculed by the audience on being a misery on the podium, happens, however, that made me to fight back and look at threat as opportunity.
I am still learning the best practises and such good post can only help other to improve.
Thank you once again for such an amazing post.
