Hi All,
Please help me.
Ganesh Chaturthi is mentioned in our holiday list but my boss is asking me to send mail to all the employees stating that tomorrow is a working day since day after tomorrow its bharath bandh.
Is this correct ?

No....Once Holiday mentioned in Form V we no need to change that procedure, In case If u need to work on that day you got permission/approval from labour dept as per your circle and also provide double wages have to give for those working staffs/employees.....

Hello Neha, Another way of handling this issue could be to ask your boss to select another later day to compensate for closing on the bandh day. Rgds, TS

Dear Friend
Since you have already declared holiday and also informed to Inspector of Factories you have no right to change on your own. If you ask your employees to come for duty you have to pay them holiday wages. Hence you can declared compensatory holiday on thursday (Bundh day) and ask them to compensate on comming sunday. Most of the companies are doing like that only.

Dear Neha
It is very simple. This Ganesh Chaturthi Holiday is entirely different and your company might have declared the same as Festival Holiday and confirmed the same to Labour Commissioner's Office during last year December itself.
But this Bharat Bandh is to be delcared as Holiday and you can further inform to compensate this holiday the organisation will work on Second or Fourth Saturday and if the same is not holiday then the compensatory working day may be on Sunday.

Hi,
I don't think that they have declared anything in labor commissioner office because 3 months back only we had framed this holiday list.
Lets see I will speak to my boss on this.
Thanks for your quick reply.

Dear Neha
Whether you informed to labour department or not your employees may know that the Sri vinayaka charthuthi is holiday. then they will ask double wages on that day if theyw work

Dear Neha,
Whether its a start up company or not.... Once holiday is declared you must abide by it... You cannot come to office & work keeping a festival at home.
Advise your boss to compensate this day on any other day rather than tomorrow as said by many of the above.
Understand that personal life & official life are two different things.... & both have to be balanced & enjoyed to have a wonderful life.

Holidays are decided at the commencement of new financial year and it is not advisable to change the list of holidays at whims and fancies of any individual in the organization.
You must speak to your higher up and tell that it can lead to catastrophe of employees' emotions, which will have adverse impact on the organizational culture.
In future, whenever management would call upon employees to trust its intentions, this incidence would be quoted to blunt the best of management intentions.
