I would also like to add an important point to the one rightly mentioned by our friend Alphonse...
It is not that the companies do not hire HR people at all... but let us also understand that the number of people working in the HR department (specially in core HR) of any company is far too less as compared to the marketing etc. departments.

I am agree with both of you but like to one thing more that mostlty hr freshers requirements fulfill by reference as i am a consultant out of 10 7 to 8 requirements fulfill by reference thats why it is difficult to find a opportunity in hr.

HR being a people manager has the capability of managing 50 - 100 - 500 - 1000 employee. Hence for every 100 employees there is one HR manager . Ratio generally goes from 1: 50 or 1:100. Attrition is less as compare to other functions & if it is you dont have much vacencies. Hence recruitment in HR is normally less as compare to the others.

I agree with our friends Alphonse & Dwijendra, But i think that HR opportunities are really increasing now, companies are understand the importance of HR in recent world, according to me the main reason of that is major of the big Orgs are going global....
I think when going global comes in the picture, all the orgs will consider is HR to be very strong.
I think HR freshers have a bright future ahead.....

I wanna Add one more for the above all points that HR managers or executives jobs in companies are very sensitive positions, through which company may loose or gain... Hence companies may giving less opportunities... And they don't give the job until unless they know the candidate.. and he has the reference
