Dear All,
Yesterday was observed as world health & safety day. The day realised as health & safety at workplace is important and directly linked to performance. The focus was the use of PPEs...I noticed that there was no discussion on it. So should we HR really feel it important or just ignore it?

Dear Mr. Arooj Javaid
First of all thanks a lot for starting up this thread... Now only I came to know about celebrating of such a day world wide for Health & Safety...
I have gone through more about it on World Day for Safety and Health at Work - Events and training
The 2011 World Day for Safety and Health at Work focuses on the implementation of an Occupational Safety and Health Management System (OSHMS) as a tool for continual improvement in the prevention of workplace incidents and accidents.
Actually in India we are giving inmportance to National Safety Day, 4th March and celebrating it every year... I think none of the Indian Companies celebrating this World Day for Safety and Health...
In the upcoming years we should give our best efforts in celebrating this event and help in promoting safety in view of accident prevention...

Dear Mr. Arooj Javaid
Nice to see you back into the EHS forum after a long time...
I will share how we train people on National Safety Day... You may like the way we adopted and can adopt the same...
We confuted main function on 4th march and on that day the function covering the following:
1. Flag Hoisting
2. Safety Pledge
3. Some speeches
4. Safety Street Plays Among work groups (Drama Competition among workers related to our plant only. Theme was our safety standards and procedures)
5. Safety Song & speech competition
6. Awarding best safety conscious workmen
7. Inauguration of Exhibition stalls which lasting for Four days.
Now comes to exhibition stalls... This was the main attraction and learning center for the workers... We made these exhibitions centers based on our existing standards and procedures... Stalls on different topic like Work at Height, Electrical Safety, LOTO, Excavations, Confined Space Entry, Chemical Handling, TPP Safe Operation, Fire, Health Care, Safety displaying various PPE, Out side supplier displaying various rescue equipments and its use, etc.
We made batches for workers and release them from work to watch these stalls... It was taking almost half to one hour in each stall... Almost all stalls explains by distributing the pamphlet in local language (Hindi) and in some stalls like Fire, Rescue, W@H etc. showing video films... Once the workers pass out these stalls they were getting a free coupon for lunch...
So overall effectiveness of this program was great... People follow what they seen rather than what they taught in class room...
I also advice you to organize such things to make your training a grand success... Further we are going to develop a Safety Park in my plant where we will display permanently installing all the Standards and Procedures stall... During safety induction visiting this park will become then a mandatory thing... Let's try to do the best for the prevention of accidents...
Hope I tried to reply to your question.. please let me know your views...
