Dear Mr. Raman
First of all sorry for being late. Yes, my status was online, but me get slept early yesterday...
I have already raised this question to the forum earlier... But not get any replies to the same... You can refer in the following link: https://www.citehr.com/294160-proces...ent-plant.html. This shows that not many professionals from Cement Industry present in our forum... Or else they are not sharing...
Now I would like to request to go through the below link and download the Process Safety ppt shared with us by our forum member Mr. Terry Penny... If one organization working is based on this, surely will achive safety excellance...https://www.citehr.com/304170-safety...ml#post1393091
Now lets more specific about the topic... Hazards in Cement Plant... We can catagorize it into two types... 1. Hazards arising from Process, 2. Normal Hazards which exisitng in anywhere else like Electricity, Work at Height, Confined Space, Excavation, Etc... The second part I think we don't need to discuss here... Let's try to slove the process safety issues...
Process safety starting from Mining and end up Packing... In each and every step we have to analyze the hazards involved and accordingly suitable preventive measures to be taken... this can be done by doing an Internal Cross Functional Safety Audit... Let's Impart the concept of Safety is everybody's responsibility... Let Line Managers and Engineers think upon it... Let them do this audit...Safety Pro can be a member in the team, it's not that they doing the entire audit... Let process people and other tech. dept. people a member in the audit... I am sure once you did this seriously and genuly almost all the Process Safety Parameters will be in line...
Now I am sharing one incident which occured in Pakistan in which entire Pre-Heater and ESP explosion occured... This is one of the biggest process hazard in cement plants... Photos of the incident and detailed study against explosion protection from Fike (Supplier of Fire & Explosion Prevention Products) in the attachment...
Request to other members also to contribute what you have regarding Process Safety?... If it's not from Cement Inducstry well and good, if not then also please share....

The biggest hazard in cement plant is dust suppression. Most of the cement companies in India don’t operate their JPFs effectively just for the sake of reducing power consumption. Pon

Dear Pon
Thanks for your continous inputs into the discussions related to EHS...
As on today I not feel that dust generation is the biggest hazard in Cement Plants... Modern cement plants like our's is installed and ensuring the effective running of following modern dust control equipments:
1. Bag House
2. Electro Static Precipitator
3. Bag Filter
Apart from this we are providing covered conveyor belts for transportation of raw materials, covered shed for additives, concrete roads for truck parking and green belt development more than what laws required...
