Marketing/sales team has to visit customers, we cannot stop it because end of the day they feed the company. When we work in a plant or office the environment is created according to our policies, but those employees who are working outside office has to meet a lot of hazardous situation which are not under our control also if we do some standard procedures for them to follow, we cannot track how compliant they are.

you want to keep the sales/marketing team, engaged in environment, health and safety, also, you want to achieve zero injuries, i.e., safeguarding the people/employees. you cannot sail in both the ways, the marketing people are the most important and they are the representatives of the organisation, they are giving good of the organisation. Some of the marketing people are well known in the areas beyond our natural imagination. Appreciating your concern, the following steps will help the organisation to keep them engaged, fit for EHS and future focus of sales targets :
1) Always keep one senior most marketing person, secondary level and the third incumbant in a team so that the team fully aware of the places of operation, their target and their shortcomings/obstacles and how to over come it.
2) Make lady marketing people well equipped with latest communicative instruments, they should not panic in over burdened situations. Some of the lady marketing people are the most best achievers in their field. Always try to accompany such team with the drivers who are multipurpose task achievers. Have drivers should be of age in between 35 to 45 so that they can understand the situation. Age is not a necessary eligibility yet, this age group know the people by reading their movements whether disturbing or smooth going.
3) Always rotate the team for good result.
4) Put them under training once in a year to face the local people, Always, gather information of the local people well in advance for the co-ordinating and timing of marketing the product in the area.
5) Some situations may be beyond our control, please have a data whom to contact during the situation, marketing people should never hesitate to get the help of the customers during these times, disclosing full identity and organisational brand help in these areas.
6) The people should adapt the instinct of conscious during the out of control situation, by approaching Police if the situation warrant. A responsible person of the organisation should always in touch with marketing/sales people for the benefit of the organisation and the for the people.
7) Beyond these things, you are not responsible for the other activities of the sales/marketing people as some times you may not aware of the contacts and operations in that case you should be bold enough to go and take steps for the benefit of the organisation. For beyond your control
