Hi there,

With process analysis you need to do the following

• Go back to your Manuals governing your business and identify processes available to keep your business on track for example with HR processes are (Recruitment –Pre & Post, Training, Travel, Promotions, Increment, Performance Appraisal, Payment & Benefit, Payroll, Education),

• Breakdown these processes into activity for each process what is required to complete it from beginning to end,

• Identify individuals involved in these process from initiation to approval,

• Identify documents involved to complete these processes from initiation to approval,

• Take one step further, create a follow chart for these processes which is a simple visual interpretation of mapped processes.

However, there are software that can assist you in mapping process, create flow charts and I would like to recommend smart draw Business Process Management Software - Download SmartDraw FREE and create process management, improvement and re-engineering flowcharts, check sheets and forms for TQM, ISO and Six Sigma!

Navjot,
At atomic level every manufacturing activity will be based on a process ie - measured steps to transform input materials to desired end product - for that particular phase of work.
Analysis should really be focused on delivering higher value. This may be in terms of improving consistency, or better quality or reducing wastage - any of the 7 wastes one hears about.
Essentially at any process stage value is added in a product only for a small fraction of the time. Usually this fraction is just about 2% - 5% of the time. Ability to reduce the other components and improving the value add will help to bring better efficiencies in process.

For process analysis one should write all activities getting involved, present control, skills of persons responcible & output quality.
If process isnot giving desired output in depth analysis relateing with man, matl, methods, machines needs to be done to find root cause.
