Dear All,
I have one query regarding frequency of Fire Mock Drill to be carried out in a Factory.
Till now we are conducting this after 6 month, but yesterday a auditor told us that as per Indian Local Law it should be carried out after each 2 month.
Kindly clarify this doubt, also indicate the references of this rule.
Thanks

Dear Mr. Vivek Mishra
I have found the following clause in the Punjab Factories Rules.
"Fire fighting drills shall be held as often as necessary and at least once in every period of two months."
You may check and clarrify it with your applicable state factories rules.

Dear Vivek,
As per West Bengal Factories Rule, 1958, the fire fighting drills shall be held at least once in every 2 months. (Subs. by W.B. Factories (Amendment) Rules, 1991, dated 27.11.1991). Plz. check with Hariyana Factories Rule. And as per my knowledge (If I'm not wrong) Punjab factories rule is applicable also in hariyana. Plz. check with attachment (page-52).
Regards.

As far as my knowledge goes, the factory laws of Punjab are applicable to the states of Haryana and Chandigarh UT. So what is specified in the Punjab Factory law for fire mock drill should also apply to the factories in Chandiagrh UT and Haryana.

Dear Vivek,
In most state it is once in a two months.
Since you r in compliance you can sugest your factory to coduct the same in every month one is for general shift and another is night or any other shift.
In that way y can cover all the employees and the fulfuil the legal requirement for frequency.

Dear Viku
Request to send the type of Industry you work for.
It all depends on nature of business you are in and standards that you follow. Is PESO, OISD applicable to you?
Please mention the nature of Industry.
In OISD-156 for marine terminal - it is to be conducted every month.
As per PNGRB - "Testing and Mock Drillsfor onsite Emergency plan shall be carried out once in THREE months and for offsite emergency TWELVE months".You also have right to ask the Auditor on what basis has he recommended - once in two months and which statutory requirement asks that.
So it entirely depends on what type of industry is yours and what statutory standards are applicable.
Thanks & Regards
Thanks Dilip - for this thread.

Dear,
Instead of looking into various rules / regulations you can arrange mock drills on monthly basis. Mock drill means you should not always arrange a big event. On monthly basis you can arrange small drills in departments. There are many emergencies in which evacuation need not to be done, If in such cases emergency is in the department only, you can try & practice smaller drills & record it.
Many times people gets panick in small emergencies also, we won't find the required thing in time. Thus you can arrange a drill, keep some observers & note the time required to bring situation under control.
Thanks
