I am interested in pursuing a doctorate in Human Resource Management- HRM. I am currently working as a management consultant. My work experience is less than 6 months. I have done my MBA from VTU Belgaum. I would like to know the procedure for applying for a doctorate- more specifically, if I am eligible at all.
Thanking you in advance.

You can apply for doctoral studies with your MBA background.
As per the present rules, some universities specify minimum 55% in PG for qualifying.
You also need to attend a qualifying test conducted through UGC called NET.
On passing through the same, you may apply for the PHD enrolment.
In private universities, however, this may not be a rule but the fee structure would be very high.
The above is for full time research where you need to work in the university.
Also, you can enrol for distance doctorate programme through Karnataka Open University/ Anna University of TN subject to some basic qualifying processes. Alternatively, you may do it with IGNOU as well.

dear suhas,
u are absolutely eligible for a phd in management. there r two options either u can do it thru distance mode or as a regular student. if u are a regular student than u should not be working fulltime. prestigious institutes like iim's etc have an entrance exam like cat where the option would be for fellowship in management. most of the universities also have their entrances. u have to submit a synopsis on ur desired topic . more u can know thru googlr search on phd in management.

Thanks a lot. I was facing a similar problem. Now my ambiguities are clearer to a certain extent. But tell me one thing, how to decide the synopsis topic? Do we need any guide for that or do we decide our guide afterwards? HR is a very vast subject. Further, what is the acceptable number of words for the synopsis?

Synopsis topic is the same on which you want to do ur research. This could be any topic you prefer. A guide is mandatory for phd- even to submit the synopsis. Synopsis can be around 2000- 3000 words though there is no rigid word limit. A lot is available on net from topic ideas to how to proceed.
