Dear Seniors,

I am writing here to seek advice on the route I am taking to obtain a job opportunity in the field of Human Resource Management. I would like to start by giving a brief about me - I have 9 years of experience working with an internet company where my role was to support recruiters in finding the right talent. I already have a Masters degree with a specialization in HRM.

Now, as I decided to find a full-time job as an HR professional, I find it ironic to not be able to get myself hired.
I do not feel that this is like a career change because I have experience in the talent acquisition process as I was supporting corporate HRs in their hiring throughout the last 9 years.

I have been regularly applying for jobs on different portals and career sites but till now nothing fruitful has come my way. I feel that I might be missing out on something but I am not able to understand where am I lacking.

I would be truly thankful if you could guide me on how I can further refine my skills and knowledge to achieve the job I seek.

I look forward to hearing from you soon.

You have had only limited exposure, it looks like, basically in recruitment & allied areas in IT Sector. This is only very limited exposure. As you have been through HRM course, you lack exposure to other areas like Training & Development, wage & salary administration, legal compliances, Grievance management, IR, Welfare, incentive & motivational schemes etc., etc. Try to get updates in these areas as you have the required basic understanding.
The industries are only recovering from the pandemic caused recession. As the economy grows more and more opportunities will come. Don't be upset at the set back you are experiencing now. Did you have a career break?

Dear Colleague,

Well briefed by our Colleague. Add:

Your strong skill set is on TA. First focus on entering into any corporate company using this core skill in to the TA Head Opening. There are hundreds of opening in TA itself for IT and Non- IT, Manufacturing TA etc. Have full cycle knowledge on TA. Design your skill sets and have a sound CV in place. Definitely you will have an entry into any one corporate as TA Head as you have over 9 years experience and also qualified with HRM.

1) Read lot of e-books on IR, Compliance, Comp and Ben, Organizational Behavior, and so or

2) chose to do any Certification Program from IIM like institute which will take you to next lead in HR Profession.

3) Also be a member in NIHRD, NIPM, CII and so on and attend to different conferences as you know the entry to Caproate happens through Contracts more than job portals.

Post entering into any one corporate, you may ask for internal role change to IR, Compliance, Comp and Ben, Training and become overall skilled. This will change to become HR Head in a span of time. God Bless
