Hi Mohan,
This varies from one company to another. Should there be NO policy on how HR is accepting the resignation letters, my best suggestion is to just follow the HR. The approval may have been 2 weeks delayed but it is good to show that you are respecting HR's request. In this way both will have a peaceful separation. You may never know, if you plan to go back to them and since you have shown good attitude towards HR procedure, you might get a chance again.
On the other, if you are preparing in joining a new company, tell them honestly about the notice period. If they really want you they will wait for you.
Best of luck to your future endeavors!
