Hi Friends
Just today i have joined this group and i am glad to be a part of it. The site seems very useful for HR people
My quarry is, i am assinged a task to initiate employee counselling sessions at my organization. I am working in this company since last 2 months only, employee strength is quite huge and i don't know most of the people. Also in my company, people have very bad impression of HR department and they don't have trust in whatever HR people do. In this situation its little difficult for me to initiate for such sessions being very new in the company. Because i believe that if employee don't have trust in HR they cannot express themselves nicely.
I would like to know from all of you that what would be the best way to start up with this sessions in such a way that i can get atleast 40 % to 50% success.
Hope to get your valuable feed back soon..

Hi Unnati,
Some thoughts-
*Since you are new to the organisation, probably they will open up with you.
*design a questionnaire to take their feedback,so that you can ananlyze and do something on the feedback received.
*meet them in groups of 10-15 and ask them to fill in the questionnaire .
8feedback in the questionnaire could be anonymous.
*then meet them one by one, or may be in group of 2-3.make them feel comfortable and ask them to give frank opinion.
remember if you are able to solve even few of their issues thru these sessions, they will definitively trust you.

Hi there,
I feel that first you should gain the confidence of your employees in order to counsel them. You can spend some time in getting to know them, either individually or in a group.
After that you can start with the counselling process. Now there are different approaches to counselling. Group counselling does not always work. You can try the CBT approach (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) as it often helps in reducing stress and helps control emotions like anger, sadness, etc.
Hope it helps

Hi Unnati,
Good views of Richa. I have somethin to add upon. As a beginner you cannot direclty win your employees. You need to build thier confidence in HR. So try to mingle with them. Go to the plants, invest more time interacting with them, then with their line mgrs. This will be more of hearing rather than speaking. Do not commit anything. If required note their major areas of concern. HR reaching the depts., will give a feel of oneness. Try to solve their minor issues. Communicate and reconfirm with them once the issue is reoslved. Then people will strat coming to your desk.
I have an initiatve of HR Helpdesk. Something you can amend for your cousnelling. Daily one hour is dedicated by Hr at plant. Hr peronsell with Sit at a table of plant and log the queries. You can use this method for couselling.
Ideally, you will have to sacrifice if your want to have a real cousnelling. Meet the counsellee after working hours or at a nuetaral location outside. Then you see how people open out. Take the person for a cofee in a hotel , dont write anything but memorise ask open end questions. To bring and to make person speak out, first ask him about his family, ect..
Secondary stage is the follow up with the person, inqurie whether person counselled is satsified and is improving upon. OK. Show your conncern.
At the same time log them in a soft log copy and give the copy to your senior. This will be quantified for your KRA / assessments

Dear Ambita, Sushil, Bharti and Richa
I am so very glad to receive so many quality suggestions. Thanks to all of you for spending time from your busy schedule and give your opinion.
After reading all comments, i will implement following plan of action.
As i am two months old i know people lilttel bit. Now 15 days i will just dedicate for informal interaction and will try to get familiar with them. Meanwhile i will prepare a small questionnaire to get their views. and after 15 days or so i will start conducting formal group discussion/counselling sessions of people, not more than 20. I think this will give me positive result.
Sushil, your idea of HR help desk is really worth implementing. Thanks.
Bharti, the questionnaire appears very helpful. Thanks for sharing it.
Hope to interact more with you guys.

HI
What i suggest you is that let you find out the real problem with the employees of your organisation - By Questionnaire survey or may be by face to face Conversation and keep it confidential and take your top management with you for proper solution of the problem....
Bcoz in Many organisations what happens is that....Hr department wants to do a lot but Top Management does not approves it policies and Plans which results in overall frustration for HR peopla also......
