YOu can use e-cards for this purpose, we are using in our office. its saves cost as well as easy.

We are using CRY and Helpage birthaday cards. Cards are signed by MD and other employees of that loaction and same is given to employee on his/her birthday by HR Team in person. I think greeting an employee with card/bouquet instead of mailing e-card will make more impact.

I agree with Zena. In my company we have got birthday cards printed with our company logo on it. We circulate that in the office to write birthday wishes and on the birthday it is personally handed over to the employee.
