Dear Experts,
Please let me get the different ways to reduce the contract labour absenteeism other than wage increase.
we are facing contract labour absenteeism (unauthorized & uninformed).
we have increased wage recently and we are getting manpower to join in our company but the hired manpower are quitting the job without any information and the planned productivity is affecting heavily due to this absenteeism.
Please share your view to reduce or eliminate these absenteeism.
Thanks & Regards,
Sridharan. K

Dear Sridharan
There are so many ways which are discussed earlier also.
Some easy ways are
1. Provide them good bachelor or family accommodation.
2. Provide them with good hygienic Canteen facility in subsidized rate or free of cost.
3. Show them their future facilities available for the lengthy service.
4. Treat the contract workmen also at par with direct workmen.
5. Provide them with timely and entitled wages.
6. Declare the attendance bonus and incentive for all day present workers.
This will help you in reducing the attrition level in Contract Workmen.

I will add to Bhaskar list
1. Free medical for self and family.
2. Usually we don't offer paid annual vacation. But you can offer Annual paid vacation if worked for X number of working days.
3. Try and identify L&D activities required within the group which would add to their skills.
4. Talk to you management and have succession career growth planning for contract workers. Promote and confirm top performers and ensure this is highlighted.
5. Have gift vouchers every month for top performer. You can decided any citeria as deem fit, idea is to give them this voucher for being a contributor to your growth.

Dear Sridharan
When I had a discussion with one of my friends, he was distinguishing into two different way. One is Controlling the absenteeism in Unorganised Sector, which I have covered and the another is in Organised Sector which is covered by Mr. Mitra.
You can select as per your industries. If you have any specific doubt in the subject, you can further ask your query.

Dear Sridharan,
Apart from Above suggestions please try to find out the reason for Absenteeism or Leaving the Company , you can get the idea from co workers or sometimes from left Employees, That will give you better Idea what to do. Sometime issues are related to Work environment or job profile, try to find out what is the difference in Work environment of Your organisation with competitor or similar setup. similarly check with the supervisors about how to make the work environment more friendly. One thing you can do without any associated cost is to Increase the Communication level among employees inform them about good practices of the company or any special benefit they will be entitled to for the long association with the company.
I hope this will help!
Enjoy the splendid day.

Dear Shridhar,
As suggested by Lokesh, discuss with contract workmen and ask them the reason behind unauthorized absenteeism. If possible make a survey report and highlight the reason to the management.
