Dear All,

I am into Administration and Facility management with the experience of 7.5+ years. So far I worked in 3 Companies. Details as below.

1. Two Wheeler Motors : 2.6 years

2. IT Company : 4.8 years

3. NGO Hospital : 8 months.

Lastly I was working with a NGO for 8 months. I lost job there from last April as its a NGO and they said due to Funds problem for giving salary to employees they had to relieve 26 employees at a time. Me too lost the job at that time.

So from last April I am jobless and had gone to home town for 4 months to attend some personal problems. Now its being 8 months am Idle. Wherever I go for interview the Interviewers asking me the following questions.

1. Why you left IT company and joined with NGO ? ( I left the company because I wanted a growth in salary and professional)

2. Why you worked in NGO for 8 months? Is it fair If I say negative about my previous employer that they couldnt afford to pay salaries

3. Why would we take you as you have been idle for last 8 months ? What answer should i give them

I am not able to get into a job for last 2 months as I am jobless for 8 months.

Please suggest me what should i do now to get into a job and what are the answers I should say to convince the interviewer.

Hi,

I would prefer answering you one by one

1. It seems that you joined NGO just for increased salary and your decision was not for professional growth because how can you expect a GROWTH with organization which laid-off 26 employees due to funds shortage and cannot afford salaries.

So the answer during interview about professional growth has became weaker and you loses your point.

2. No never use negative words for your ex-employer. It creates a very bad impression of candidate. Please check the following article

3. Write down your strengths at a piece of paper and try to relate it with the strengths, employer has given in the job advertisement. For learning it more, please wait for tomorrow for my upcoming blog post on:

This is an interesting problem, but for you ofcourse, its beyond interesting and of utmost concern.

The problem is that there is no correct answer to the questions. What the interviewer is willing to accept depends on each interviewer.

I am going first by the assumption that since they have called you for interview, they are interested in you as a candidate and not just interested in wasting your and their time.

for the first question : I would say - I worked there for almost 5 years, learned a lot but the profile was unchanged and therefore lacked challange. I thought working for an NGO would give a different set of challanges and allow me to grow. Also the salary they were offering me was much higher. Me not being a developer / programmer would in any case not get any further in the software company.

for the second questions : I would have liked to work there further, but they were facing a serious financial problem and retrenched most of the people. They asked me to leave as they were not in a position to pay salaries. I understand now that joining there was an error, though i have learned a lot in that profile.

for third question : Well, I had to take few months off for a personal problem. But now I am read to get back to work. As you see, i have worked for 9 years and there has been no complain against me. I do not see any problem in working for your organisation. I mean, if you take me, you will find I will have no difficulty in executing my duties and delivering to your satisfaction.

Ofcourse, each of the answers needs to be tweeked depending on what you actually did, and what the prospective company is looking for.

Best of luck with your next interview

Dear All,

I used to work as Admin /Facility Dept in Bangalore with a Salary of 3lakhs Annum plus other allowances. Recently I got a govt job in Tamil Nadu as a Junior Asst. in a School. Salary is Rs.180000 per annum. my concern is whetehr I should continue in this govt job or go back to pvt firm. Because I have the following concerns.

1. Less Salary or No Growth

2. The place also which am working not good. Its very hot a remote village moreover health issues due to weather.

3. I dont want to live a middle class life.

4. Job Profile : Its more like a office asst job where you are the one who is gonna take care of salaries calculation of teachers working , collecting and submitting docs to CEO or DEO office personally.

5. I am loosing my technical skills here as I dont have approach to computers. ( I did my Diploma in E&C and I used to work as IT admin also in pvt.sectors)

But now everybody is scaring me that if i leave the govt job you are loosing a good opportunity where you dont have job security in pvt sector, and in govt you have assurance of job till 55yrs. But pension plan is now not there in govt.job. Am confused now. Please suggest should i continue with the govt job or not..
