What\'s your take on five day a week work culture? Is it going to help India grow? Is it the right thing to do for maintaining work / personal life balance?

Yes, i think 5 day work culture is here to staty & will grow as more MNCs set up shops in India. Even typical Indian companies are also going in for 5 days work rule for management staff cadre. However, for factory / production based staff, it remains mostly 6 days even now.
Apart from benefits like a better work-life balance, it helps to curb the carbon footprint as well by reducing energy consumptions at offices & savings on transportation.
In fact, many candidates are very particular about 5 days working, else they dont take a good offer also.

Dear sandsky,
The subject comes up for discussion time and again. Twice I have given my views. You may refer the following links:

For a better work-life balance, 5 days working is the best option and now slowly Indian companies are also understanding this and that is a good sign.

Yes. Most of the MNCs are already having 5day/week culture but Indian companies are still working on 6 days / 5.5 days model where they make saturday half day.
However it depends upon the industry also you are in. Like in IT companies it is 5 days only but in most of the mfg segment it is 6 days.

5 day week works better than a 6 day week.
More gets done and employees feel stress free. Of course, for certain activities, like front offices or customer support or some govt offices, where the need to keep doors open for as long as possible exists, the situation may be different.

As a (relatively) young person working in the corporate, I side with 5-day working week. Especially in a city like Mumbai, where one spends considerable time in traveling also, the work days tend to get longer, leaving one very little or no time for personal space during the weekdays. Also we don't have American/European culture of strict adherence to work hours, and they get stretched a lot longer.
Weekends having 2 days can be used to rest AND to unwind, relax, socialize and give time to yourself. On a lighter note, these 2 days also sometimes seem short, but one can manage.
I am assuming 2 day weekend becomes helpful to married women, mothers or even working couples to catch up with each other, with family, children and connect.
This is a one-sided comment and I haven't considered effects on productivity and so on. The comment is purely as an employee.
