Hi seniors, I want to know that is it possible to change from Marketing to HR in another company. I work in an e-commerce company with almost 6 months of experience. I want to change to HR in any other company/industry. I am a MBA in HR & Marketing (both majors). So, is it possible? Will it affect my experience in any way?

Since you have spent only 6 months in marketing, you can change over to HR. But you need to understand why you want to change and be sataisfied that the change suits your aptitude and personality. Some people keep hopping from one stream to another or from one industry to another in their search for an elusive comfort and finally get disappointed, when they do not find one.is it for this reason, you want change? Look before you leap.

Thanks for the reply sir, actually to be frank I joined marketing because I was not getting a good opening in HR and also I didn't want to sit idle at home after completing my MBA. My ultimate target is HR. I have done my summer training, projects and all other things in HR. Sir, will the 6 month experience count?

Dear Mr. Vicky0909,
At an outset of attempting to make a career change from one stream to other one should be lucid for a new challenge explicitly. You are interested to switch job from Marketing to Human Resources then you should use some additional sentence of elaboration about how can your experience make you a good person to be hired in HR.
Be tactic when you say, "I'd love to put my learn & contribute as much from Human Resources" rather than simply saying "Since I am a MBA with HR & Marketing, I seek a job in HR" -- Which one sounds worthy?
You should be keep it succinct as you would be considered a fresher into entry level positions. If you seek the readiness to have it big you need to start from the scratch.
It will never effect unless you hop jobs regularly from HR to something and then something else. Hope thsi helps you get some idea.
All the Best....!

Hello Vicky,
You are a MBA, with both HR and Marketing specialised person. You selected a Marketing job which came your way first. How do you feel in the job? If you are OK with it and have adequate scope for development, I would suggest you to continue in Marketing area itself, even if one or two shifting of organisations are required later for a better position and salary.
But if you are so fond of HR work, which is not very rosy in organisations, contrary to what you have read in text books and cases, you may take a firm decision on it to change and explore the best opportunity for it at the earliest. HR job opportunities are much lesser than marketing jobs. Your 6 months experience in marketing may not be counted as an experience in HR job, unless otherwise you have become a good PR and communication expert.
Good Luck

Ok. Thank you. When is the safest time to change the organisation. I mean after how many years of the first experience? Actually I don' t see much scope for development in the present organisation. But I am enjoying the job here. I want to leave this organisation after working here for a total of 1 and half years. Will that much experience be enough to get a better job? presently I am a Business Development Executive in a e-commerce company.
