Hi All,

I am palavi a marketing professional working in an IT company , i am working with this company since last 7 months, i am BDM here and i also handle Hr as the company is new start up and we are only 4 people(including my boss )in the company, my boss said we will hire new people soon, but he is trying to get all the work done from only two of us because the third girl hired is also his family member, right now we are working on a website project and and my profile is changed a lot, i am doing work like content writing and concept development and product development ui designing and hr , i am a creative person and a quick learner so i do various task and manage many things as i was hired for marketing activities but the product is in development stage so i have to do this all work which is not of my profile but i have also designed marketing strategies and plans for the market launch of the product but my boss is in no mode to invest in marketing actives and is totally dependent on direct marketing ,sales for business , i don't want to be impatient but i know him that he will not listen to me n will pressurize for targets.but i know the product is very weak n still is in R&D and will take at least one year for revenue generation, basically he is denying for further investment and thinks that we should try to sell it as it is as i think he wants to see how it works in the market which of no use as i know the market output of it, plus the working is very slow as there is no resources i am now really confused as i don't have any growth or market exposure in the company and my career is questioned mark if i stay with this company m just gonna waste my time and do the work which is not of my profile i don't want to continue her as m not learning anything new please guide me and suggest me what should i do please help me weather i should leave or still wait..? if i leave is it going to leave a bad effect on my career and give bad impression on my resume.? please suggest what should i do..?

Look for a good opportunity and quit. I do not think it will affect your career at this stage, as you are a fresher.

Greetings,

You are working in a start-up which works entirely different from corporate . Its only here , you will find such a wide range of responsibilities. Maximising your capabilities , is the only reason why you would want to work in here. However, good will and reputation works very differently. In a large set-up probably a feedback from your boss, ideally seals a back ground verification. Whereas in a start-up its a far more in-depth discussion as you are equally responsible for the success of the organisation.

Please weigh your options. Working in a frictional environment can happen anywhere. Differences with the leader on a shared vision will almost remain the order of the day , no matter wherever you go. Gaining the maturity to value someone else point of view and then taking a stand , is what you are soon getting at!

Your point of worry is your questionable future . Here's what I would suggest you, move out of the firm only when its the last thing to do. You have invested so much of your focus and effort. Hence gained such an high business acumen. Seeing through this moment will make you far more matured than you are now.

If at all you have to move , please continue to support the owner as far as you can. A start is not a company with machines inside four walls. Its a bunch of highly motivated individuals ready to stand the test of time. Make yourself good for it .

Uploading your resume in any of the job site can fetch you many interview calls a day . You have managed a plethora of services , hence there is no stopping for you to grow.

Wish you all the best !

Hello,

There are 2 ways of looking @ your situation.

One is what Simhan mentioned & the second is what (Cite Contribution) suggested.

However, you have not mentioned IF you are getting your salary regularly or not.

If you are getting it regularly, then what (Cite Contribution) mentioned COULD be the best bet. If not, Simhan's advice is better.

Coming to your line '.......not learning anything new.....', it depends on how you look @ it. You feel that way since you are mentally tuned to being a Biz development person. Suggest widen your horizons, BOTH mentally & realistically.

With your exp of 7 months [presuming this is your First job], there's no dearth of learning @ this stage of anyone's career. Many Biz development persons with years of exp rue their 'lack of functional/technical background'. And here you are who is being given such an opportunity as a part of the regular job--just try to gain whatever it offers. Later on in your career--wherever you might be--you WON'T get such an opportunity even if you turn heavens inside-out, so to say.

Suggest keep your mind & options OPEN right now. There's every chance that you may realize that you are good @ totally something else than Biz development. This will come-in handy when you want to profile yourself when applying for new jobs.

Reg 'when to quit', I would take (Cite Contribution)'s suggestion "Here's what I would suggest you, move out of the firm only when its the last thing to do".

I am unable to mention beyond this aspect, since you haven't mentioned your qualification(s). If it's Technical, then such a multi-faceted exposure would be a major asset in the long-run.

All the Best.

Great suggestions !!
Looking at the query put up by you, viz :
".. what should i do please help me weather i should leave or still wait..? if i leave is it going to leave a bad effect on my career and give bad impression on my resume.? please suggest what should i do..?"
I believe you have got all the answers and several perspectives.
So keep looking for 'better opportunities' and meanwhile learn... learn .. and ..keep learning, as you find yourself in a unique position with several hats to wear. Above all, learn to be happy in whichever situation you find yourself, there is always a silver lining to every cloud.
