The Mathadi Act of 1969 applies to the unprotected employees/unprotected Manual workers or the employees engaged in any scheduled employment (it is the schedule given in the Act which contains the list of those for whom the Act is applicable, so please go through the Schedule to know the applicability of the Act in your case....... (refer last pages of the given document, link is provided below ...

<link no longer exists - removed>

If you fall under that scheduled list then No exemptions are provided and it is binding.............

It is usually applicable to the loading and unloading kind of manual works.....

(The SC’s recent judgment has not only upheld applicability of the Mathadi Act to industrial units, but also interpreted the meaning of ‘unprotected workers’ to include all manual workers employed directly or otherwise.

Thus, even direct workers as well as contract labour engaged in manual work have to register themselves with the Mathadi Board. SC Judgement in 2011)

for more details may refer : Government of Maharashtra Department of Labour.
