Dear All,
I am an Asst. Manager (Security) working with an manufacturing industry for the last 6+ years. Initially Joined this company as Sr. Officer and later on promoted as Asst. Manager. During all this tenure, i have been in II-in-Charge of Security department and have also been actively assisting Head HR in various Labour & IR issues. Basically I don't belongs to any armed forces and am an Science Graduate (B.Sc. (BIO)) and apart from this i have done several diploma course e.g. Certificate in Computing from IGNOU, C Language, Diploma in Security Management, Fire Fighting & First Aids and recently completed PG Diploma in Labour Laws, Personnel Management & Industrial Relation. Now i am very much interested to shift myself from Security to HR. Kindly suggest me the way i can choose to do so. Also tell me how can i convince my management to be agree on this.

Dear Shailesh,
It could be difficult for you to get into HR directly from Security. Rather you try for Admin Manager job. You may continue in Admin or then further progress into HR.
I had encouraged security officer who was reporting to me to get into Admin. After spending about five years in Admin, he became so confident that he has started his own facility management company.
In fact Admin is not that bad either. If you learn purchase management, contract negotiations etc, you may become admin head of some big company and your earning may go up to 20 to 30 Lakh per annum also.
All the best!

Dear Shailesh,
To groom yourself to the managerial position, attend training courses that happen on managerial competencies, career planning etc. Secondly, start applying for the position of Asst Admin manager etc. You will come to know intricacies of the job when you get into it. To succeed in admin, records management is something quite important.
People at many level do not plan their career. Recently, I had conducted public workshop for secretaries titled "Secretaryship to Managership". I had given insight to the secretaries how to grow to in their career and not to slog as secretary throughout their life. They were more than happy.
You can click here to know about that past workshop. Connect with me on the Linkedin and I will intimate you as and when workshop of this kind happens in or around your city.
Thanks,
