DEAR FELLOW MEMBERS,
Those of you, who have had the opportunity to read about the Rs. 500 note splashed asking, who want this and a lady from the audience went immediately to get that Rs. 500 note. That is "A leader should take initiative and grab the opportunity WHEN IT COMES" was what some of you had written.
The same story is retold in a different way, Rs. 500 note being a deer. If the lion wants his breakfast, he must run faster than the deer and grab it!
One of the qualities of a leader is that he will take initiative before others take it. Mr..N.R.Narayana Murthy, soon after completing his MBA from IIM,Ahemedabad saw far ahead of others and ventured into IT field. What he did for India and to Bangalore is history. He Infosys a world class organization! Likewise, Azim Premji. moved from his father's vegetable oil business to IT filed before others could realize its importance. He too had a great vision. Kiran Mazumdar, a Bangalore University graduate, was able to see a fertile land in biochemistry(When no one thought on that line) and started Bionics India which has now become a world class organization. Verghese Kurian, the White revolution Giant, refused a lucrative pay package from TCS in 1979 and settled down in Kheda Dist. in Gujarat and has created Amul which is not owned by any MNC or Government. He thought a simple item like "Milk" could do wonders for India! Amul is now owned by farmers of Kheda Dist. It is said that Amul is earning a foreign exchange worth Rs. 5000 crores!. All these management giants had vision and they could see far ahead of their times. Hence a leader must be far far ahead of his times and must foresee into a distant future. Trainers have a responsibility to inculcate these qualities in their participants. I hope they will do this very effectively, as they are considered as change agents. M.J. SUBRAMANYAM, BANGALORE
