Hello Seniors,
I want your valuable guidance. I have a question that after switching from corporate to teaching, can anybody again switch from teaching to corporate(had experience of three years in teaching) ? or person can move as corporate trainer after having good experience(around 7 years of experience in teaching line)??
Qualification of that person is MBA-HR, pursuing Phd.
Seniors kindly enlighten with your valuable opinion.
Thanks and Regards,

Dear Swati,
Typecasting is prevalent, as a plug-and-play mode is most preferred at the point of hiring. However, I request you to share the areas where you have doubts in. You have shared you are pursuing Ph.D. Which area of studies have you selected? I assume this requires you to work closely with the industry to research the operational details for your thesis. This is systematically preparing you for the role you are targeting to serve.
Ideally, a switch often requires one to work in similar roles, offering a horizontal growth. This would take a hit in terms of salary, although for you it may not affect, as you are likely to join with a higher level education. Which firms have you applied so far and in what roles?
Looking forward to hear from you.

Thanks M.M Enterprises.
But presently that person is working in Corporate and want to switch. It is his/her future planning. Here question is- is the path which he/she has choosen is feasable or not? Can such practices be done or not?
Here question is not why he/she want to switch. It could be for any reason.

Dear Swati,
Yes one can switch and change gears any time. I was an Engineer but later on shifted to teaching and then into training. One needs to be clear about the goal and why one wants a career change. Importantly one needs to gain the necessary knowledge and skills for the career one is opting for....
Yes, the recruiter shall be curious and apprehensive to know about the change, but you need to have sufficient reasons to make them understand and show your skill-set too during the hiring process. Hope it helps...

Thanks (Cite Contribution) and Thanks Atul Sharma.
Atul, I have one more question related to your experience, how many years of experienc do have in teaching?
According to my opinion, even that person can be good trainer if he has a teaching experience (although experience in corporate is essential but how much experience is sufficient?) because it is good job in which that person can enhance knowledge as well as communication skill. Actually at present that person is in corporate with around one and a half year of experience.
Could you please help me in this regard also. As all seniors have great experience in their field and hence help us by giving their precious suggestions.

Dear Swati,
Teaching, Training , Facilitating are all one or the other form of the Professional Knowlegde Sharing activity. If i have got your question right, then a person needs to focus on the end result before going in for a switch.
I agree with Atul & (Cite Contribution) that a switch is possible but is the person competent enough for the particular job role. Even if we take a hypothetical situation saying that a person has been teaching Kindergarden students for 7 years and now wants to move to Corporate Trainer role, then it would require a complete shift of focus as the audience changes drastically. Is the doer ready?
One needs to calculate all the options carefully before a switch or shift and be determined to stick on for some time at least.. otherwise there are chances that they may be categorized as "inconsistent" job profile.
Thanks

Thanks a lot "forlearning" for your inputs.
I am really thankful to all seniors for their valuable guidance.
Seniors, after such a good discussion, one more question is arising that how much experience count in one profession so to be called as a "consistent" job profile. I know some time it happens that even person is in a same profile from a past ten years could not be a competent enough. But, still is there any set frame of time (experience in a same job profile) for which recruiter show a positive response on it or which is acceptable in corporate?
Hope you all will help me in clearing my doubts.
Warm Regards,
Swati

Dear Swati,
It should not be dificult to change over to training but it depends upon the factor as to the subject of your Ph.D as also the experience in teaching whether- the teaching has been/ is in an educational institution or in the corporate and an associate of a training consultant or a free lance (with the area of your specialisation, if any).
An experience of 5 years in the training field should be helpful in the situation with the MBA background. Ofcourse, every time, one will encounter an inevitable question as to the reasons for shifting from the main HR function to the Training as also from being a free lance/ an associate of a training consltant to the Corporate and there has to be a really, convincing answer.
