Dear Kamalakar,
The following formula is being used by us for calculating attrition in our company.
April 2011 - Employee strength - 100
Employee left - 2
Attrition % - 2/100 X 100 = 2%
May 2011 - Employee Strength - 104
Average Employee Strength - 100 + 104/2 = 102 (April Strength + May Strength)
Employee left - 2
Total Attrition - 2 + 2 = 4 (April Attrition + May Attrition)
Attrition % - 4/102 X 100 = 3.92%
You have to eventually add up the total exits month after month and divide it by the average strength and then calculate the percentage.
Employee turnover rate and attrition to my knowledge are one and the same.
