Hi Deepali,
That is a controversial subject!
My views:
Marketing /Sales: Having been in industrial sales and project management, my viopinion is that mktg/sales job is always industry specific. by that i mean that in most of the occassions, the sale/mktg move in a specific tech field where thay have been in. For eg, it would be pretty tough for a guy who has been in 'consumer goods market' to move into 'industrial selling'. Hence since you are restricted to a particular market, where you worked counts hell a lot.
HR: HR like Finance is a generalist profession. They can move across the industry segments pretty easily. Hence where you have been may not count so much. That does not mean it does not count at all. I feel in relative sense, the importance could be at a lower degree.
Thanks

Hi Dips!
I really do not agree to it. I guess big names matter for all the functional areas. But more important is what kind of responsibilty u have undertaken in ur job and employers look for a thourough and crystal clear understanding of the work done. As an MBA student in final yr. I hv heard that Big shots are more unorganised. What say abt this?
Cheers

hi bala and gunjan,
well, bala then u will not look for the company if u look 4 a job. n den y employers prefer to hire candidates from big companies. Now gunjan as u said big companies are more unorganised den i must say yes. n infact i hv also seen in India many companies still dun realise d importance of an HR dept. what do u say..

HI Dips,
HHHH, u r really making brains to work ,bit more!
c cvs are a tool which helps an individual to sell himself in the job market , agreed! so whether HR or marketing its the objective is the same.
OK ,talk of something which is debetable and can attaract varied views and not more exp., people participate., ok

Hi Dips
I have still not experienced actual work life but I had interviewed various HR professionals of biggies like Cognizant & PWC & WIPRO during my summer interns. I guess cos. are increasingly understanding the importance of HR functions to inc productivity. HR ppl are making them realise that they are now Business partners. Its mainly some traditional cos that may be viewing HR as not imp function. Infact Anil Ambani in one of his meeting said that his work is basically managing ppl.
What say???
Cheers
