Hello,
Skill set for a Placement Officer of a Management Institute would be:
1. Fluent English Communication-verbal and written.
2. Reasonable insights in Management & Economics,
3. Awareness of industrial clusters in terms of sectors, locations.
4. Ability to develop sound, credible reciprocal relations with industry.
5. Effective paraphraser of industry' need for talents and Institutes syllabus execution.
6. Facilitator or promoter of industry/institute interface.
7. To help institute to reconfigure it efforts to provide requisite skills to industry.
8. A good PR, liaison and relationship building.
9. Sound and rich frame of reference, in terms if awareness to changing needs of industry, govt. policies and national economy and
10. finally positive attitude, proactive nature and strong optimism.
These are afew things I feel the Placement Officer must have at the minimum. There can be more factors, but those will depend upon the institute culture, the potential employers around and location of the institute-whether rural, urban or metro. Also the quality of students and faculty.
You are free to raise more questions and seek clarifications.
Good Luck

HI Preeti
Before dressing to preethi let me say thanks to Mr. Samavedan. Very good bit of knowledge you have shared.
Preeti I am also doing the same work. For 10 colleges earlier i was tagged as Industrial Liaison officer now HR corporate relations.
I am doing it in Tamilnadu, Karnataka, i have good contact with HR people. I would suggest you to register linked in. This is the plat form of HR, and other various net works such as SHRM, NHRM.......etc ( there are plenty)
Lastly one simple suggestion
be in good touch with other placement officers of your location.
I see very good career opportunity.

Dear All,
I recently joined an IT training corporate as a Training cum Placement Manager and I have about four years of experience as soft skills trainer. However, I have only one and a half years of experience in placing students in corporates.
My humble query is do I have to walkin to each and every organization and do a presentation or can I just call, send mailers and CV's of fresher candidates to corporates.
How do I segregate between which company will ask candidates to upload CV or will agree to a campus drive, because mostly these companies do not have a mail id or a phone number to which we can call.
Appreciate an early reply.
