I am doing a research project on "HR practices in an organization", as a part of research project in my MBA curriculum.pls help me how to go about it.There are no dependent or independent variables,how to start with the research.pls help.

It is nice to see your interest in the research project. I think you may ponder upon following points:
(1) Read some research articles on your topic or interest area. This will give you an idea and bring in sink with the current research stage of the topic. Where to get: internet is one of the option, check with your college if they have access to online research pages, magazines etc...contact and discuss your professors.
(2) Read some articles on your topic...book, internet, magazines, newspapers etc..keep an eye.
(3) There are no set dependent and independent variables, once you decide the area you can also decide on variables. This is more a area of concern in quantitative research.
(4) Once you know the details of the topic try to get the questionnaire (may be your professors can help you to get validated and scientific questionnaires). Or even if you feel difficulty, you can prepare something by your own to get qualitative data at least, based on that you can prepare your project.
(5) Contact HR department of some companies, specifically known for 'HR best practices' (if this is your subject), they can fill up the questionnaires. You can also compare them with other companies who may be well known for their 'HR best practices'

You need to search. Try BNET - The CBS Interactive Business Network You need to register at that site and you can download some of their articles. Even where you have to pay, try writing to the authors for a copy.
