I have been asked to conduct the time and motion study in my organisation so that the productivity can be increased and the laborers inputs can be noticed. Can anybody please explain me that how to conduct it?

Any person cannot conduct those studies without being trained. You need to undergo training in the methods as you should be able to judge the speed and effectiveness with which one is working. For example, can you judge the speed at which a person is walking just by observing hin/her walk. However, before you set a rate you should conduct method study to establish the appropriate method.
As you have not given enough details about the nature of the work, it is not possible to suggest which of the many methods (time-study, MTM, RWF, Activity Sampling) available to select.

Thanks a lot for your response. Actually it is a reputed printing press. The problem is that our labors got used to of doing overtime and getting paid for it. So management has asked me to do the time and motion study so that the actual manpower needed can be identified. please guide me what should i do?

Like I said earlier, you need to be trained to do it properly. If I have to guide from the UK, you need to give me more information. A diagram of the physical layout, a flow diagram of the job, etc. I suggest that you engage a consultant or request your management to send you on a course; also, kindly contact the Productivity Council Welcome to National Productivity Council

Did you get the project proposal approved by either the guide or the institution before venturing to do the study? What were the aims and objectives of your study?
