Dear All.
I have interviewed one person for Warehouse Incharge’s position. For the salary proof, i asked his salary slip.
The salary slip, which he has submitted, found fake. Its showing Rs.275/-Profession Tax, & Rs.124/- ESIC (though his gross is above 11000) which is not possible.
When I asked the justification, he said this slip is not fake, company is providing it. He is not ready to accept. Then I asked for Bank statement, for which he denied, He said he will not provide it, decision is yours.
Overall candidate is good, the only thing is salary slip.
Can you guide me, what should I do?

Hi Bhavna,
Please be firm. Do a reference check with his organisation. Ask him to get the salary slip attested from his organization. You can also request him to provide last 3 months salary slip to cross check.
Thanks

Dear Bhavna,
I would suggest u not to recruit this candidate though he is a good one b coz he lacks loyalty and courage to accept his mistakes.
He has provide a fake slip! That is not good but understandable but he is not ready to accept also that shows his attitude.
DECISION IS YOURS.

Hi Bhavna,
As Umesh mentioned, talk to the employee personally.
but
Asking for 3 months salary slip is not an issue as he can do it by himself and get it attested too.
Personally talk to him ragarding the compliance of ur company and make him realise that he has done something wrng.
If he is good in his job then it is a loss for ur company as to get a good employee is dificult to find out.
Make him Realise the loss to the candidate too...

Thanks all,
Just nw that candidate called me up, n he is saying that his accounts department has done some mistakes in salary slip. Its not his fault.
Well the co. for which he is working is a Ltd co. n its a big org, I don’t think so they can commit such a foolish mistake.
I am just thinking to confirm the same from his company, but it might creat a problem for him. is there any other way?
Please suggest!

Well, you can call up at his office on behalf of some bank & tell them that this person has applied for a loan and you want to verify his salary.

Dear Bhavani
This is now common scenario in the employment. You have got the point. As long as there is no system to verify this could be possible. As others advise you should not recruit such person into the organisation. my advise is not to fix based on the salary slips. gauge the skill and fix salary according to skill level.
this could solve all the problems.

I believe we are making judgements without verifying the credentials....Sometimes, organization do commit mistake in salary slips, even bigger ones do. For example, my wife works in a big MNC ...Last month's salary slip was having wrong basic thus all other components were wrong. This month's salary slip is having wrong taxes shown...On probing further, I discovered that this company has implemented a new payroll package two months back...I have asked her to provide this feedback to her company
I think the idea floated that you must disguise yourself as a bank/loan officer is a good one and get it verified. Afterall, an HR person has to play many roles as part of the recruitment process........
