Please buy Maharashtra Minimum Wages act 1948 with rules. Under the title SHEDULE (ENGG INDUSTRY) you will find all the skills defined thoroughly. The degree/diploma has no role to play. It is the competency on the job which counts.

Dear Member,

Plz go through site paycheck.in for having definition of unskilled,semi-skilled, skilled & highly skilled workman. State Govt. declare minimum rates of wages for different categories of workmen. A set of different designations are classified in these categories. If your employment is enlisted in the list of schedule employments under the Minimum Wages Act, 1948 by the Govt. then go through the minimum wages notification in respect of your employment to see which designation falls under which category. For example if grinder is found in skilled category then you are required to pay minimum wages fixed/declared for skilled category. You are to give appropriate designation at the time of appointment & then go through the notification to see the category under which the concerned will fall.

Opinion/comments submitted as requested.
