Dear all ,

This is regarding an appraisal query !! Iam working as an Assistant Manager , HR Operations with an IT Firm in BPO Division. we provide HR Service to our client. We have completed one year of service and received appreciation certificate for the same .

The firm commited for Appraisal to be done after one year is completed for all the team members. My boss has processed the same with out informing me , or having any sort of discussion with me. He told that our appraisal process is completed and it will be effective from 1st October , 2009 !!!

I Need to know as an Assistant manager HR , I must have been involved in procesing appraisals for my team members. The proces was done with out me , what must be the reasons behind the same. Pls comment your views

It is totally wrong, in my views you should be involved in the appraisal process. I think you will be carrying a Negative attitude towards your Boss after this incident.
You should have a word with your Boss & should sort out the matters with Boss.

hi nithya,
have read a lot of your posts. consider you as a sensible and sensitive person.
have you got any feedback on the appraisal?
how is your professional relationship with your boss?
sorry to say here, there might be a bit of male ego involved (assuming your boss is man). people are still ficklish about females hogging the limelight.
on a different note, this is the first year and he/she may have wanted to be directly involved and control the feedback.
yes, you should have been included in the process of appraisal - asst Mgr (HR). suggest that you don't take much to heart. maybe he will discuss with you once the process of analysis is done. maybe you can have a quite word in private.
one thing though is did you receive any sort of info from your people that the appraisal process is going on? grapevine or discussions during lunch with your people would have given you an inclination.
we all discussed our ratings with our colleagues.

My Boss is very professional person. He is very supportive for us in every aspect of our work at office. As this is my first expeience as Assistant manager , i never had any prior experience in Appraisal process.. May be that is the reason , MY Boss never involved me in the same .

hi nithya,
your reasoning maybe right. no harm in talking to him though when he is in a relaxed frame of mind. he might give insights which should be helpful to you. have you got your feedback/ appraisal? this will be an indicator of things as well.
maybe you are rushing through or tense or pushing things around - discussing with your boss will certainly help. however, your posts and reply do indicate you as a meticulous and sensible person. but you certainly will get the best insights from people not only above you but also under you.
things will fall in place so not to worry

Dear Nithya,
He might have had a specific reason behind that - for instance he must have already had a plan. Let the team first implement what has been prepared - go ahead in suggesting if any change is required.
There is no point in thinking over why it was done without your participation, or whether you should ask why it was not done so. That will make you look vulnerable.
Instead - just go with the flow, if any changes have to be made in future - just highlight that. I am sure he's open to such conversation.
The choice is yours to take this serious or just ignore and be less emotional. I'd suggest you to chose the latter.

Ravi,
I understand you have reached heights of being "bugged". No matter what you say - "star" "moon" "sun" "wind" - Ravi is always Ravi & Ash will also remain the same.

Dear Friend,
It might have happened because your boss might have felt that you are new to the industry and you may be in the process of learning. So he could have felt of doing the appraisal without anyone's assistanceship independently. Here there is no room for domination or oppression by your boss. I think he considered you as a 'green girl'(inexperience), that is the reason he kibitzed on HR. Ask his guidelines to know what can be further done.
Best Regards,
M. Mohammed Musthafa
