Hi,
I am sure most of us would be facing this question : "Should HR people work between 9 to 6 only ?"
As u can see in any organisation, technical guys need to work at least 10-12 hrs. a day considering their job profile.
Comparatively, HR job isn't that hectic. I feel its a routine job & if managed well one can finish the work in the stipulated timeframe.
Lets share everybodies view on the same whether HR, especially professionals in recruitment field, should strictly work between 9 to 6 only...?

I dont really think so. There are times when we have to do salary, recruitement or any other work given by your seniors or any one else, in that case we do have to spend more time.
So i dont think that anywhere any HR person would be working between 9 to 6 only.

yup i too agree with chitra..... its not always time period...its a flexible time period..wen required we need to stay back late nights too... am HR of an IT company... there are days en i left offc at around 12 at nite...becoz i had work..so its not always time....bt your work which will calculate you working hours.....

yes , i fully agree with you.
HR shoud work from 9 to 6. , if a person can organise his/her work then it is easy to do. One should effectively use working hours to do be focoused on work and go home early to spend some time in social life.

It is true that HR not necessarily work extra hours on all days, but needs to sit during month ends, apprisal / reward workings etc - simply as and when need arises we sit extra hours.

:) well you are right but again as a technical professional we are also professionals who has to handle and complete their responsibilties but it again depend on the type of industry you are working with ,well in industries like IT , biopharma there is no work load as such but ya in industries like in maufacturing ,big plants where the work pressure on HR is quite High ......really 8 hrs are not enough.
As far as recruitments are concerned ,see candidates are always busy in the working hours neither they take much intrest nor they are always available to hear you with patience and discusstheir quieries regarding the job being offered by you. After working hours they are available to give a pateint listening so have to wait for that.

A Committed HR Member has to work for 24 hrs round the clock when it is needed, when you framed as a Manager, you are suppose to work for round the clock when and where needed. When a crisis period like theft, strike in a Company, the HR has to play his role which may extends for round the clock. So accept the responsibilities when you want to be a leader and also accepts the same, when you want to be a leader.
A HR is an committed Bureacracy, you can define a role for a Engineer, but not for a HR, because his/her role is unlimited, you can go to the depth, when it comes to Budget and Costing, you can question your superiors too, but not your other departments. So, know your role and act accordingly.

My experience is that the time spent in office is not only dependent on the work to be finished, but to the extent to which one wants to develop in the field. Looked at it seriously, there is a lot that can be done for the improvement of the organisation leading to personal development too. It is the differentiating thing that one wants to create in the workplace. For eg., let's assume that there is a policy in place. It is up to us to follow it blindly or to go through it again and again and implement ways of improving it. Of course, it depends on the domestic commitments too.
Especially for those who handle employees' queries, they might find time for such developments only after scheduled work hours. And as Chithra has rightly pointed out, when there is much work to finish, it is always better to stay late and finish than to keep things pending.

I completely agree with nidhi.
Its true, as everybody will be looking forward to achieve something in their career.
A Hr job is not only to learn, organsie and implement things with in the organisation, being Hr one should think of contributing his/her views which will benefit in more productivity for the organisation that way one can make the identity. for this one need put on the extra time to achieve it.
Ultimately at the end of the day Hr productivity will be recognised in this manner.
