Dear Friends,
It is good to learn SAP, and even work on this ERP package. But i would like to add here some thing a hard reality on SAP job market.
My views are not with an intention discourage SAP aspirants, it is a small effort from my side, to make you people aware on SAP market trends
SAP has slowdown and it is not as lucrative as it was earlier.
* Trend has changed now as most of the big and medium scale industries have already implemented SAP
* There are n number of companies are in to SAP implementation hence market price has come down
* SAP itself has agreed that it is left out with only Small and Medium sector.
* Salary which paid in early 2005 was three-four times higher then what today companies are offering for SAP entrants.
This is all about SAP Market
Next as an experienced HR Professional what challenges you will face upon joining SAP.
* Needs start with scratch as if you are a fresher who joined from collage or school.
* Only comparative salary,
* Lower designation and hence lower Responsibility and Authority,
* Routine monotonous job, most of the time at on one bench,
* A very limited scope for growth only in ERP sector and most important a huge competition much HIGHER THAN HR GENERALIST.
Next advantages you get from choosing SAP career:
* Software Entry and moving towards technical job,
* May get an opportunity to work renounced MNCs
* Status and Big brand
* A good corporate culture and most exposed to software industries
* If you are an expert will get good hike in salary from 30-50%
* May get an opportunity of foreign assignment
Next disadvantage of taking SAP as career
* The most knowledge savvy job is lost,
* Movement from large scope in terms knowledge gaining, work profile, job opportunity to a limited area
*Loss of good remuneration and pay pack: Salary in core HR Generalist is good and most of the times much higher then salary paid to any techies even its SAP
* Loss of benefits and facilities: Normally SAP career one will enter 3-5 years experience, when you compare for experiences around 5 yrs, a core HR person will be at least junior management level with benefits, as mobile, car, petrol allowance, incentives etc.
* Loss of Authority, Responsibility and most employee relations,
I hope it will help a little to all SAP aspirants,
Thanks,
siddu

i really appreciate the comparisons between SAP and HR generalist, but it is the market requirement that one should posses the skills, SAP is a good option for those who are good at technical, people who like interacting should work as a generalist, so it really depends on likes and dislikes of the individual, one not happy with SAP has also an option to switch in generalist.
