Good escape!
No discretion, no concession, and hence the employee would not feel the need to have been obliged by the management in any way, when doctor would readily give certificate to his patient. So, in return, employee cannot be expected to yield extra out turn or productivity in the need of hour when the occasion demands.

Management style is different for different managers.
In this instant case,it is not mandatory to accede to request of employee without getting suitable medical certificate.
If a concession is made ,it is not necessary that extra output will come up at time of need.
Many a person takes all concessions without feeling obligated and even leaves the organisation when it suits him/her.
Any decision when it is taken needs to balance many factors and way of mentally balancing varies from manager to manager.

Of course, nothing is necessary for a non-innovative & rigid type of manager in any organisation, who is not ready to take any initiative and likes to work only on dotted lines and directions of others.
