Greeting of the day!!!
I am working in a pharmaceticuls as a Executive in HR & Admin. In this company, I am doing HR activities at minor level (making salary sheet using excel, Offer letter, appointment letter, increment letter & other official letters & P.F. deduction) & admin activitives at major level (expenses of field staff, follow up with field staff for expenses, reports, sales statements & others). There are not good opportunities in core HR.
I want to keep in touch with core HR. So I am preparing for UGC exam & I want to know the cource in HR which could be add value in my current profile.

Dear Bandna Rani,

Appricite that you have more thrust in practicing core HR. In middle east, mostly the HR Professionals are doing Visa recruitment, renewal and cancellation in addition to the Admin functionalities (Camp, Transport & General Administration). Hence, the core HR depends with the need, structure, size and type of the business you are in alonwith the legal requirements of the particular country.

Taking-up UGC exams may help you to teacing career in Higher Education Institutions which is not required qualification for Industry; but, it's good to move to academic with Industrial exposure, sothat you can develop students with practicality.

To add value to your profile, anyone of the following courses can be pursued in addition to your Master's(Unawre which PG currently you are having):

For Qualification:

1.MSW(HRM)

2.MBA(HRM)

3.MHRM

4.MLM

5.PGDHRM

6.PGDPM&IR

7.PGDTD(Training & Development-NIPM)

8.MA/MSc(Psychology)

9.LL.B/DLL&AL

All the above courses are available in both regular stream as well as distance mode. In addition to that, you become memeber of some forums/profesional associations/network of HR to gain updated knowledge in the field and to associate with other HR Professionals.

For sake of knowledge/qualification, anyone Master Degree in HR from an approved Institution/University is enough; experience only adds real value!

I fully agree with your views. Best bet is Practical Knowledge, Communication & Vocal skill. At this jucture would like share my own experience.

While I was working with Airports Authority of India as Dy. General Manager suddenly the Union leader with his followers barged into my cabin one day with furious look in his and his follower’s face.

In front me I had only 3 visitor’s chair. So only the Union Leader and his two deputies could sit and others had to stand. On seeing them, I got up, discontinued my telephonic discussion, went to the corner of my cabin and fetched them water by myself. Seeing me personally giving water to him and his members, the Union leader requested me sit and told one of his members to take over the job serving water. I just refused to hand over the Glass and Jar by telling them that I love giving water to my visitors & rekindle my desire to be humble. Then after serving water requested my attendant to get as many chair as my cabin could accommodate. Seeing me doing this the Union leader, getting restless started to discuss the issue.

In response, requested him to hold on as I want all of them to sit and listen instead of standing. Till all the chairs arrived, I started enquiring about the welfare of family members of every member, by name. While in the process, I could sense the sign of diffusion of tension in the face of the Union leader and his followers, also the tone of their language. By the time all the chairs arrived and every one sat down, it was more than half an hour. This time lag changed the mood of Union leader to exchange pleasantries, and walk out with his followers by telling them that no injustice would be done to them by me.

The first thought came to my mind by seeing Union leader with his followers was that the union wanted to discuss something serious. Since I was not well equipped at that moment, I wanted to

(1) buy time (2) diffuse the situation and (3) Make them understand that I do care for their welfare.

After the crowd disbursed, I asked for the reason from one of the member in most friendly manner to know the cause of such gathering and took recourse to prevent such occurrence without loss of time.

Two days after this incidence the Union Leader thanked me over phone for saving his face in his circle.

I LEARNT THIS TECHNIQUE ONLY BY EXPERIENCE AND NOT FROM ACDAMICS.

HERE WOULD LIKE TO STATE THAT I AM B.COM, DBM, DIPM, LLB, MBA (FINANCE)

& MBA (MARKETING).

Dear Bandna,

Choosing the career path depends with one's interest and need, not merely the available opportunities. We normally take the decision of deciding the course to study, in turn, job to join by the influence of our parents, elders, peer group and the job opportunities available in the market. Normally people fail to select one's career which suits his inherent abilities and interest, that's why they find difficulties in succeeding or even continuing in the particular career. Though the subject matter-HR is same in both Education and Industry, the career will completely be changed once you migrate from Industry to Academic (Education). Now, you have to carefully analyze your potentials, skills and abilities to take-up a wise and right decision.

I understand that you don't have the problem of qualification requirement since you hold MBA-which is enough for entry level to both fields. But, you have to think what your passion is - either teaching or practice?! I can assure you that nowadays teaching is also a lucrative career as like as Industry (Please refer the UGC Pay scales and the salary structure of the MBA Colleges/Institutes). Here the most challenging part is producing quality graduates to meet out the corporate demands with good academic and placement records. In Industry, you will be facing daily pressures and targets to be completed in align with business/operations. It is more of a challenging job where you should be prepared for dealing risks. The education field is also nowadays having more challenges like Result, Rank, Placement, Industry tie-ups, Foreign collaborations, Research/project studies, Publications, etc. apart from ensuring the 100% admission every year to the Institution. Women mostly prefer Education field, since they think that it has less risk and they find more leisure time. But, I suggest you to go Academic field, only if you are passionate and committed, because if we look this as a job, then, we definitely will spoil a generation.

So, you have to now decide your career interest and then choose the particular path. One caution I can say you that it is too difficult to enter into Industry after having experienced in Education field; but the Academic will give good welcome for the Industry experienced people.

If you decide EDUCATION is your way, then go for UGC-NET Exams (Twice in a year, it is conducted for Lectureship and JRF) and further join for PhD for qualification up gradation. As per the AICTE Norms, your MBA is enough for Assistant Professor Job for MBA Institutes. But, if you decide INDUSTRY is your destination, then think of joining HR Module Courses like SAP, ERP, etc. in addition to the certification programmes like CIPD, SHRM internationally to further equip yourself. The best bet is, as Mr. Kumar stated, EXPERIENCE, that too in well established/reputed firms so that you can gain quality experience and lucrative career.

Dear Mr.Kumar,
It's so pleasant to meet and greet you and your rich experience, especially your keen concern over Welfare approach in our HR practice.
I just remember the PRICOL(Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu) incident where the HR was cruelly killed by the group of agitated workers during the crisis, that too in his office itself. But, you have nicely dealt such incident (Not similar, ofcourse) with your EXPERIENCE. I felt it as a good example of crisis management.
