Hi Abdul Khadir,
I totally agree with your, a leader always thinks ahead and never underestimages anyone neither blames before looking in into himself/herself.
I am a follower and making my way as a leader, and I would never use a user id like DEADSOUL it is so depressing.

Dear Ms. Margaret Valentina,
Spend time to study/understand yourself. It includes your PERSONAL & PROFESSIONAL LIFE. Allow others to give feedback about your PERSONALITY, ABILITIES, CAPABILITIES, BEHAVIOUR, ATTITUDE, STRENGTH, WEAKNESS etc. Seek inputs from your parents, family members to know, where you stand in your PERSONAL LIFE and HOW SUCCESSFUL ARE YOU IN MAINTAINING PERSONAL RELATIONSHIPS?
Once you obtain relevant information, correlate it with your workplace skills.
Are you able to manage yourself better?
Are you in a position to deliver your responsibilities in time?
Are you able to coordinate with your peers/superiors?
Are you able to lead either your team?
Are you able to guide or provide best inputs to your peers/coworkers/superiors?
As a part of RELATIONSHIP MANAGEMENT - How good are you in maintaining PROFESSIONAL RELATIONSHIPS @ WORK PLACE?
Incase if you are FOLLOWING someone, to what extend you are blessed or benefited in learning various things supporting your PROFESSIONAL and may be PERSONAL LIFE can also be considered.
If you wish to be in a LEADERS COMMUNITY, you are requested to contribute your knowledge and learn good things.
With profound regards

Hi Mr Khadir and Readers
Your Post lay a lot of Emphasis in being a leader. You are very much in a favour of being a leader and encouraging leadership. Some fantastic definition, explanation, discussion took place on this thread.
Most of the posters wants to be in a leader category, barring few who admitted that they are followers and leaders both.
What I feel is; the definition, explanation of an Ideal Leader is really good, but very theoritical and looks good in Books only. Rarely we see people become leaders as defined or explained here.
In practical world or in reality, leaders are more manipulative, cunning, shrewd and opportunistic. Be it any circle of life, professional or personal.
Another observation I have is; too soon too early people wants to become leaders, they shy away from becoming followers or be labeled as followers. Except in religious matters (As it involves hardwork, dedication, discipline etc) Although this are required in all other areas of life to qualify as a good leader.
My observation remains around social and professional circles, there is an invisible race amongst peers and colleagues to empower each other psychologically. Expressing leadership qualities to profess superiority over others, to be one level above amongst equals.
Essence of true leadership and fellowship is lost in power struggle, end result what we see is, all leaders and no followers. Everyone thumping down their own ideas, agendas and opinions.
One example according to my maturity is “India’s Political Leadership Scenario” Everyone wants to become leader of the highest order, bask in all the glory and power enjoyed by the leader, but lack the very qualities of a leader defined at this forum.
In today’s times leadership is about, yelling out loud own ideologies, oppressing any disagreement, abuse of respect and trust. Bloat in pride and arrogance, mislead followers, flow with the masses opinions (even if its unethical). What we see today is half baked leaders.
This very idea of glorifying leaders makes us greedy to become one. We don’t respect followers, leaders blinded by the power dont respect followers and their faith. Thus encouraging followers to yearn for leadership; too soon , too early.
I do understand my post is pessimistic in nature, but that is the sad truth.
Thanks for reading

Dear Mr. Hussain,
At the outset, i appreciate your reply. Can you just let me know, what made you to come out with excellent points worth to be appreciated? Please do respond as i am desperate to hear from you.
I replied to Mr. Dinesh Divekar's post stating that "If the DIRECTOR itself executes the ROLE OF A ACTOR, then, there won't be difference between DIRECTOR and ACTOR". I want to hear more and more, let it be a single or multiple members. Only then we are going to understand FACTS/TRUTH, let it be SAD or BITTER.
To be honest, this thread is PLANNED ACTIVITY of mine. I am working on it past 3 WEEKS. I am proceeding as per my plan, hence, i am able to draw members ATTENTION and have succeeded in making them respond, proportionately.
Coming back to our discussions......You have pointed various "TYPES OF LEADERS". Leaders do have their own TRAITS to be demonstrated proportionate to the SITUATION/CIRCUMSTANCES. I love your example "India’s Political Leadership". It is the BEST EXAMPLE for "DICTATOR LEADERSHIP" as our government is trying to get things done as per their WILL & WISH. DIRTY POLITICAL POWER never gave birth to GOOD/HONEST/SINCERE/KIND/POLITE/DEDICATED/TRUST WORTHY LEADERS, infact DIRTY POLITICS had KILLED GOOD/HONEST/SINCERE/KIND/POLITE/DEDICATED/TRUST WORTHY LEADERS as there was NO SCOPE FOR GOOD THINGS TO BREATH(IMPLEMENT/PRACTICE/PROMOTE). If you find DIRTY POLITICS in ORGANISATIONS, the same thing is bound to happen.
On the other hand, we should also study the LEADERSHIP STYLES pertaining to MR. NARAYAN MURTY, FOUNDER CHAIRMAN-INFOSYS, MR. RATAN TATA, CHAIRMAN-TATA GROUP OF COMPANIES, MR. BILL GATES, CEO-MICROSOFT etc. The best part is study our own MANAGEMENT @ WORKPLACE. We will find answers to all our queries.
I support your observation as you right said "Everyone wants to become leader of the highest order, bask in all the glory and power enjoyed by the leader"..For your kind information, you will find HONEST LEADERS who doesn't PROMOTE themselves nor they want to enjoy anything except DOING/OFFERING THEIR BEST IN FAVOUR OF THEIR FOLLOWERS. They are none other than "EDUCATIONAL PROFESSIONALS - TEACHERS". Thousands of students still follow GOOD ETHICS/PRINCIPLES OF LIFE, as learned from their TEACHER(S)/GURU. We may follow more than one GURU/LEADER.
Its all about LEADERSHIP and a FOLLOWER. You haven't defined what you are. Forget about the world as i don't to become what they are. I have got my own world and i am LEADING it at the same time following my LEADERS too.
Except ALMIGHTY none is perfect in this world. i.e. THERE IS NO PERFECT LEADER, may be, there are BEST LEADERS.
Awaiting to hear from you desperately. Share as much knowledge(when information is positively utilized it becomes knowledge) as you can.

Thanks for your appreciation !
What makes me put forward this opinions ?
I observe people around, including this forum, majority of replies claim to be leaders. I ask in interviews and I get flowery fantastic answer how the candidate is a true leader, on systematic and clever questioning they tumble down .
During my work experience, I see there is a race to become a leader, even though not on paper but to seek psychological dominance.
By observing that, how leaders are glorified, praised, pampered and followers are used, manipulated, oppressed. I do understand this are traits of corrupt leaders, however leadership bring power and power corrupts the leader.
You mentioned about some famous names : Mr Murthy, Mr Gates and likes.
There are definately true leaders in this world, the breed of true leaders is very rare. Not necessarily they have to be famous, we find them in unexpected areas. Just an exception to your example of Mr Gates, I consider him an impressive management expert rather than a true leader. As his antics to become rich, famous and innovative is well known.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
We believe that we are leaders, but may be we are mistaken, may be we are good at management but not leadership. And we misunderstand our management skills to be that of leadership.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
About Myself :
I used to be a leader (I matched some qualities of leadership mentioned at this forum)
Now Im a Follower ! Observer ! Listener !
Why so ?
I don’t know why ? lack of opportunity or lack of assertiveness ?

Dear Mr. Hussain,
Its a wonderful discussion and i believe that we sharing PRACTICAL INFORMATION. This is helping me to understand HUMAN PSYCHOLOGY as i love studying the same.
There is nothing harm in trying to be a LEADER, as long as we don't manage to get things done through our impractical WHIMS & FANCIES. There are tons of examples of LEADERS who tried to get things done by HOOK OR CROOK, so called DICTATORSHIP STYLE. Even today, i come across such leaders. Here ETHICS are missing and NO HUMAN VALUES. I don't even like to suggest anyone to become a LEADER just for acquiring POWER & WEALTH.
If you want to be a LEADER, be for a GOOD CAUSE and make people talk about you for the GOOD THINGS you had done. This is what i LOVE TO DO, as i promote the same. Many had mistaken that, LEADERS only LEAD and LOVE TO GET THINGS. But TRUE/GOOD/ETHICAL LEADERS are PART OF THE WHOLE PROCESS as they share everything equally. This is my observation.
The main aspects of a LEADER are
1) TO LEAD/GUIDE HIMSELF AND HIS FOLLOWERS IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION.
2) TO HAVE A POSITIVE MENTAL & PHYSICAL ATTITUDE.
3) SHOULD BE A GREAT EXAMPLE FOR "DOWN TO EARTH PERSONALITY" WHILE DEMONSTRATING THE DISADVANTAGES OF EGO.
4) TO BE A PERFECT PLANNER KEEPING IN MIND FUTURE TRENDS.
5) TO HELP TO DEVELOP BETTER SKILLS/TALENTS/COMPETENCIES THROUGH MENTORING & COACHING STRATEGIES
6) TO HELP TO BECOME A SUCCESSFUL PERSON IN PERSONAL & PROFESSIONAL LIFE
5) TO TAKE CONTROL OF EVERYTHING WHILE STILL BEING PARTICIPATIVE & DIRECTIVE.
6) TO GIVE TOP PRIORITY TO ETHICS AND HUMAN VALUES/RELATIONSHIPS.
7) TO MOTIVATE POSITIVELY FOR POSITIVE OUTCOME WHILE STILL BEING ETHICAL. TO SHOW EMPATHY, TO SHARE PAIN/SADNESS/LOSS etc.,
8) TO HELP FOLLOWERS TO CONQUER THEIR WEAKNESS & CONVERT IT INTO THEIR STRENGTH
9) TO HELP TO DEVELOP SELF-ESTEEM.
10) WHEN THINGS GO WRONG OR UNEXPECTED/UNFAVORABLE SITUATIONS TO BE HANDLED, A TRUE LEADER WILL STANDBY, WHATSOEVER MAY HAPPEN TO HIM AND HE WILL NEVER LET HIMSELF OR HIS FOLLOWERS DOWN. HE MAY PREFER TO DIE, BUT HE WILL WORK IN FAVOUR OF HIS FOLLOWERS AND WILL SUCCEED IN SAFE GUARDING THEM.
As i said in my earlier post, NONE IS A PERFECT LEADER. At times, they may go wrong and they learn from their mistakes. After a long successful journey Mr. Bill Gates is now working on CHARITY, which he never did before. He had succeeded in making his TEAM work for whatever he wanted to CREATE. He is a successful MANAGEMENT EXPERT as he knows about COMPENSATING A EMPLOYEE FOR HIS HARD WORK and at the same time, he is LEADER as he wanted to achieve whatever you had mention in your post.
As such RACE FOR LEADERSHIP exist only in PROFESSIONAL CIRCLES but not in PERSONAL CIRCLE. I hope you will agree to my observation.
I have understood TRUE LEADERSHIP and i am implementing in my PROFESSIONAL CIRCLE. I don't know to what extent it is being NOTICED but still i am trying my best to make people understand its IMPORTANCE in our PROFESSIONAL and PERSONAL LIFE. I am trying to find out something related to PROFESSIONAL LIFE associated with WORKPLACE SKILLS as how TRUE LEADERS inculcate this RARE HABIT which i found in very very very very less number of employees. I am sure it is INBORN. I had realized that only a TRUE/GOOD/UNSELFISH LEADER has succeeded in inculcating this habit in employees because of INSPIRATION.
When you know that, you were a TRUE LEADER, so try PROMOTING it for a GOOD CAUSE. The best way you can do is, GIVE SUGGESTIONS, share your IDEAS irrespective of its EFFECTIVE UTILIZATION, by those with whom you had shared. Again, there is no harm in declaring yourself as A LEADER but, you can PROMOTE your GOOD LEADERSHIP SKILLS. For sure this will project you as a TRUE LEADER. There is nothing harm in promoting GOOD SKILLS you possess or BLESSED with. Also, we don't need AUTHORITY nor POWERS nor OPPORTUNITY to prove our GOOD/EFFECTIVE LEADERSHIP SKILLS. Simply march ahead and believe in DOING & PROMOTING GOOD always.
When you are good FOLLOWER, OBSERVER, LISTENER, you are definitely ASSERTIVE but not AGGRESSIVE nor PASSIVE/SUBMISSIVE. NO DOUBT YOU ARE A TRUE LEADER because i am sure someone will be following GOOD SIDE of yours.
I agree that TRUE/GOOD/ETHICAL LEADERSHIP SKILLS are missing in MANAGEMENT PROFESSIONALS, hence most of the employees are facing various issues at workplace.
Welcome to the group of TRUE/GOOD/ETHICAL LEADERS. Lets promote the same and i am there to support you buddy. TRUE LEADERS NEVER GIVE UP BUDDY.
Good luck and keep sharing, as have to learn GOOD THINGS ALWAYS.

Dear All,
Its time to put forward my query for further discussions. I had been monitoring various employees(at various levels) activities, behaviour, attitude etc. The organisation's productivity is directly proportional to employee performance. I found two types of EMPLOYEES listed below.
One. who took complete OWNERSHIP & ACCOUNTABILITY and did something more than expected as they had traveled EXTRA MILE to complete various assignments. - A RARE BREED OF EMPLOYEES(PROFESSIONALS), they are INTERNALLY MOTIVATED and can do wonders if they are compensated and promoted proportionally.
Second, inspite of routine motivational activities, they just carried out their RESPONSIBILITIES(for name sake to earn their bread & butter) but failed to deliver and meet expectations of their superiors.
MY QUERY
----------------
How LEADERS(can be a supervisor, manager) can inculcate this HABIT in those employees - "TO TAKE COMPLETE OWNERSHIP & ACCOUNTABILITY & DO SOMETHING BEYOND THAN EXPECTATIONS OF THEIR SUPERIOR", without taking support of MANAGEMENT?
No wonder, i can motivate, educate, counsel, mentor, coach employees to develop various workplace skills. Even after carrying out such activities, i haven't seen any change in second category employees.
Kindly share your PRACTICAL EXPERIENCES only.
With profound regards

Dear MR.SHAIK ABDUL KHADIR
Greetings.
First let me appreciate your initiative of starting a very meaningful thread.
Thank you very much for inviting me in your discussion by your gentle reminder.
I feel to limit my discussion with few messages as I have found many of our forum friends have already discussed nice points and I do not wish to repeat the same.
As per your request, I wish to be precise by quoting an example before I answer your main Question.
Let me quote an example that is familiar in HR’s parlance:
Here’s an example most people can relate to… so read along and then tell me which person is tapping into their leadership power.
Two people go on a job interview, are equally qualified, and perform well during the interviews. At the close of that interview here’s what transpires after the interviewer says “Thanks for interviewing, we’ll let you know what we decide about the position.”:
Person A says…
“Thank you for your time. I appreciate the opportunity and hope to hear from you.”
Person B says…
“Thank you so much. What are your next steps in the decision making process? What is your time frame for making a decision? I am currently evaluating several other exciting opportunities so I will give you a call next week to check-in as I would really like to make an informed decision and have the opportunity to contribute to your organization’s mission.”
Which person is being more of leader in their own career?
Person A who gives a passive, and waits at the mercy of someone else to decide their future?
OR
Person B who proactively gathers more information and creates the next step in the process so that the highest good of all involved can be served?
Let us not define a leader or a follower as per books, but let us define them by situation.
I wish to share an appropriate quotation here to support my views further.
“And the first thing to know is that a “leader” is not a job description. It is a state of consciousness.” – Yehuda Berg
Because leadership is a state of consciousness and a way of being, you can be a leader in your own life if you wish to create accomplishments on your own terms.
Otherwise you’re left to the whims of others.
A leader isn’t always a leader and a follower isn’t always a follower.
That's what ‘Leader or Follower’ is all about.
Hope I have made my points clear.
Coming to your main question “Are you leader or follower?”
I have the mind of a leader, disguised in the body of a follower.
Leader by direction and example. Follower by religion and kindness.
I am both, you can even call me as a Leadower (Leader + Follower).
I will be too happy to receive your guidelines for both - leader and follower.
Thanking you again for the opportunity given to express my views.
With warm regards.
