Hi All,
Basically this question is asked to check out to what extent is the candidate interested in the job change and to what extent is he/she interested in tis particular job.
However this question can also be asked based on the information that the company gives about the job opening. If you have hardly given any information about the job opening, then the candidate will have many doubts in his mind. If every thing is cleared before itself then you are safe from your end and its the turn of the candidate to Prove himself. What do you say guys??

Dear
I added the above comment in reply of your previous question which was " Do you want to ask anything".
As far as you new question is concerned "Tell me about Yourself". In my opinion here interviewer wants to know:
1- How exactly do you know yourself?
2- How do you explain yourself?
3- what kind of personality do you have?
4- What kind of attitude, behaviour, skills...etc do you possess?
5- whether those skills which you claim are present in you or not?
6- How much visionary you are while explaining yourself?
7- what interests and activities do you have?
Alot many other things are also there which could be assessed in relation with the Psychology, personality, Hobbies and interests, commitment and Vision of the candidate.

Hi Srishti,

Though I am not a manager, however I have some experience of taking the HR round of Interview. All the other reasons mentioned above are correct but at times the reason of asking such question can be -

1. To check the communication skill of the candidate as this is a very open ended question that requires a person to speak.

2. To gage the level of knowledge and other competencies which help doing the job fitment. Like -leadership qualities, drive to learn and excel etc. As when people ask questions like - what is the growth path and the hierarchy it gives a feel of the candidate being very ambitious.

3. To assess his/her interest in joining our organization.

4. Normally this question is asked towards the end of the interview. So, it's expected that the candidate is fully aware about the role and the organization. Still if they ask such question with a doubt like - what exactly will be my role, whom am i suppose to report, what is the designation???- we have either not done a great job of explaining him, he is too slow in grasping knowledge, he was not concentrating or he is confused.

hence, this is a very important question. Also, basic courtesy requires an interviewer to give fair chance to the candidate to ask relevant questions. This will make him/her have a comfortable relationship to ask any question at any point in time before joining, and join with a confident mind set.

hi vijay

Thats a tough question as i want to do everything from recruiting to employee welfare seriously i may sound stupid but i never seriously gave a thought to it but today when you asked me so i am thinking about it so far i was concerned for just completing my mba. Well, L&B interview was over yesterday i got selected though for the recruiters post which i didn't even opted for shouldn't be saying this but honestly this company was a disaster sick unprofessional people don't know exactly wot they were upto they wanted ppl only for the recruiters post and was giving a very low compensation and the job resp. was of grad. level no growth opportunity 6 ppl out of 20 was selected i was one of them and we backed of.

Coming back to your question vijay i have a great interest in welfare of employees but i guess thats not possible.at entry level may be later i ll get the opportunity for the same and for know i dnt mind recruiting ppl. but i want to ask you what according to you is the most challenging in human resource ? and what does a entry level hr proff. like me should start with? looking forward from you...
