ESI Returns and remittances have become ONLINE submission. After filling the monthly contribution in ONLINE & submission ONLINE, U should print the challan from the same portal and attach your cheque for the contribution and give to the designated bankers, obtain their ack/seal and file half yearly Return (some Inspectors still insist for submission manually for Half yearly Return) and keep them for your record. Like this you can file/remit for previous periods as well and deletion & additions of employees from time to time, as and when necessary. But safer side you better maintain/preserve manual register of wages/contribution.
